2015-2016 Saint Louis University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I have two questions..
1) If Im are unsure as to whether or not I will be attending SLU, should I hold off on accepting my finanicial aid awards? Or is this easy and reversible?
2) During the interview day I thought the financial aid speaker said that to be considered for need based scholarships you only you need fill out the FAFSA (as long as both you and your parents info was included), so there are no other forms you have to send in are there?
Thanks!

Alternate list . Is everyone getting placed on the alternate list because it was so late in the interview season? Interviewed 2/1

I am hoping this is the reason.

It seems like this may be the case.

Have there been any outright post-interview rejections?

For everyone being placed on the alternate list: is it ranked in any way? If not, does that mean people interviewing later are on the bottom of the list?

The email says that they 'want to emphasize we were chosen over other able competitors', so I guess this means that they do reject a few people post-interview (but probably not too many). Probably once April 30 passes they'll have a better sense of how much WL movement will occur and then cut accordingly.

Waitlisted today interview 2/9 same email that mentions "want to emphasize we were chosen over other able competitors"

No ranking mentioned so it's very hard to tell unfortunately. Rather cruel to not give out alternate rankings. Just cut the cord and let me free already SLU!

It's a ranked list, I asked and this was confirmed by email. They said they keep the ranking confidential and that there's no way to assess the likelihood of your acceptance at this point. They also said movement off the waitlist will occur after April 30 (the multiple acceptance deadline), but I've also heard at least one example of a student getting accepted off of the alternate list in early March (in a prior year).

As the multiple acceptance deadline approaches and applicants make decisions, I wanted to update again! I am a first year SLU med student that is on the Orientation Committee! We will be planning the events for your welcome week and making sure you have the necessary info before moving to STL. We created a facebook group about a month ago; we ask that only accepted students request to join the group. Once you request to join, we will give you instructions on how to verify your acceptance, so please check your facebook messages (especially that random "messages requests" folder!) Congrats on your acceptance to SLU, and we look forward to having the new class on campus!

If you are having trouble getting accepted to the group, please message me here and I will help you!

Hi! I recently looked at the website and the orientation schedule dates are all off. Since you are on the committee, perhaps you could check on this. 🙂

We'll work on getting that updated! The "Orientation Week at a glance " page has the correct dates, but the "2016 orientation week schedule" has the days themselves correct, but the numbers wrong. But orientation week will run from White Coat on Sunday, July 31 to Sunday, Aug 7 and classes will start on August 8! We've sent the preliminary schedule to faculty to confirm availability and will have a confirmed schedule in the coming weeks! Hope that helps! If anyone has specific questions, feel free to message me!

Accepted yesterday! I had basically given up hope with no interview invites by Feb, but got an SLU invite for 2/23. Here's looking out to my fellow late interviewees
This is the tiny glimmer of hope I needed! Congratulations!

Can we accept the financial aid award even if we aren't 100% sure we will be attending?

Yes, you can.

You can also JUST accept the endowment scholarship, if you received it, for now and hold off on accepting the loans for a later date.

Has everyone received an aid award who has been accepted? I haven't - did this come in the form of an email? All my financial aid paperwork is complete to the best of my knowledge.

Yes, log onto the myslu banner. Click on the Student tab, look for financial aid, click thru and you'll find your financial aid offer. If everything was submitted & processed, you should see the overview.

So I just received my financial aid package in the mail and there was a section labeled "your scholarship/financial aid award". Is this straight up money they are offering that isn't a loan?

Log-in online and see:

Student Tab
Financial Aid
Look at the overview of the award (shows what you received via loans and scholarships)

Does anyone know if the award is final or if it is subject to change?

Interviewed 02/09, and was waitlisted, on 04/05 approximately eight weeks. I was wondering from past experiences and students as too when the waitlist begins to move and about how many students are selected from the waitlist.

It does not look as tho people are rejected post interview. Any advice would be helpful guys! 🙂

According to USNews:

7267 Total applicants
1034 Interviewed
522 Accepted
173 Enrolled

Out of state:

6788 Total applicants
921 Interviewed
423 Accepted
115 Enrolled

To answer your question, the percentage of OOS interviewees that are accepted seems to be (423/921) *100 = 45.9%

Ebi, I don't know if this helps, but someone posted this a few pages ago regarding SLU's admissions statistics. It appears that few interviewees receive direct acceptances, but a fair number of those waitlisted do eventually get accepted.

As for when the waitlist movement will actually happen, that's anyone's guess! I would think it wouldn't start until around 4/30 though, which is the point at which no one can hold more than one acceptance.

Fingers crossed for you, man!

Anyone else interview on 3/1? Haven't received any news at all but I keep hoping it's because it was so late in the game...

Just got the alternate list email. Interviewed 2/29.

^ On that note..... Does receiving an alternate position later mean you're probably lower on the wait list? Just trying to be realistic with my chances here.

From what I understand, the alternate list is ranked based on GPA, MCAT, performance in the interview, etc. In other words, don't give up hope yet! Movement should start happening the first week of May, so keep your finger crossed!

Got an email asking if I wanted to stay on the alternate list, and to update my contact information if so. Anyone else get this?
I got it.

Interviewed February. Placed on alternate in March. I don't have any other acceptances. Hope that helps!

Interviewed 3/1. Still waiting. Did anyone receive a confirmation email post interview?

Every other school I interviewed at sent me an email confirming that I attended the interview and thanking me for interviewing there. The online portal even still gives me the option to cancel my interview that I already attended.

You are fine. They didn't send me anything post interview until a decision was made.

Would it be unnecessary/too early to give them a call tomorrow and ask about the "updated alternate list" email that I didn't receive? I hope not receiving one doesn't indicate what I think it does, or maybe I'm just overthinking this whole thing...

I didn't receive one either. I would be interested in hearing what they say if you call.

Interesting. So I just received the "updated alternate list" email about 30 seconds ago. I wonder if receiving it later than others means anything, or maybe i'm STILL overthinking this... Lol
