Just got accepted!!!!! Absolutely speechless rn, IUSOM is top 3 for me. Personal info is: OOS, interviewed 9/11, no ties to the state. No email or acceptance letter yet, my portal just updated with the new accepted tab w/offer letter, etc.

I just got accepted as well!! Just saw that my portal updated—no letter yet.

For anyone who’s curious, I’m an in-state applicant, regular decision, and I interviewed 10/2. Congratulations to everyone who got accepted and good luck to those still waiting to hear back!!

I just talked to admissions!! They said they haven’t met for the SCP group yet so if you interviewed for it/applied then don’t worry. They are going to meet on us soon but might not find out until the December meeting.
The only thing is that didn't they say we have to find out by December 1st for the SCP program?

The website does say SCP would be notified “in” December, but I could have sworn it used to say “by” December.

During my SCP interview, we were told we would hear in November, but if December is the date now, then that's that.

How long after paying the app fee, uploading the legal disclosure, and sending the dean's evaluation did you guys receive an interview date? All my documents have been ready for almost two weeks now but I haven't heard anything..

Does anyone understand what happens if we don't get the scholarly concentration? I've heard we get thrown back into the original applicant pool, but does that mean we could still hear from them with a regular admissions offer later in December?

Just accepted via portal, no letter yet!!! This was my 3rd year interviewing at IUSM I'm still in shock. Interviewed 10/9 Regular MD OOS.
Congrats! What day did you get the complete email?

Is anyone signed up for informed delivery through USPS? I’m Wondering if it would actually show up

For those curious, I was signed up for informed delivery and have been accepted. The envelope is a large envelope, and the day I received it I got a message from informed delivery saying "There is a piece of mail coming to you we do not have a picture of." Perhaps the size of the letter was too big for USPS scanner?

Also for those curious:

Non-trad
BA in Chemistry, graduated IU Bloomington 2015, 2.8x cGPA, 2.5x sGPA
IUSM SMP (Cellular & Integrated Physio) 2018-2019, 4.0 GPA

Unique volunteering, work experience, and ECs. PM me if interested.

Did not apply to either EDP or SCP
Application complete 7/18
II received 7/31
Interviewed Evansville campus 9/4
Acceptance letter received 10/18
Portal update 10/18

Do you get a link to a portal only if you get an II? Regular MD program, complete 8/16, and complete radio silence.

I'm guessing if your file was reviewed and the committee didn't vote for acceptance the first time around, your chances of WL are much higher? Pretty bummed 🙁. Interviewed 10/9, OOS.

Not necessarily. My understanding is this (told via an adcom ad hoc faculty member). Please correct me if someone else has heard otherwise. These numbers are arbitrary.

The committee might have 50 completed applications to review (i.e. 50 people received the email telling you your application is complete and ready to go in front of the adcoms).
Your application is #31 in the pile.
They meet at the end of the month to decide on acceptances that will be sent out on the 15th.
They only get through 30 applications.
The 15th rolls around and you hear nothing.
Next meeting you are (potentially) up next on their backlog.

The only true way you will know if they didn't vote for acceptance is by getting a rejection, getting a WL notification, or the expiration of the cycle next year. My interviewer was very adamant about the fact that radio silence is not necessarily a bad thing. They have 7000 applications to get through. It's just the way it goes.

Pre-II R today. Expected as I am OOS but decided to shoot my shot as both of my parents went to IU

Withdrawing my application today prior to scheduling an interview date. Not really too chatty on this site, but I wanted to say please be considerate of your other applicants. If you genuinely feel that you're not interested in attending, help others out. Someone could really use your interview. The same courtesy extends to WL positions.

Best

Complete(?) - 08/16/19
Interview Invite - 11/22/19
Withdrawal - 11/23/19

Same with what the other person told you (it is possible they didn't get to your application) but I also know several people at IUSM right now that interviewed in September/October of last year and didn't get in until January so I wouldn't worry too much about it. It sucks waiting but you got this, just have to take it month by month. 🙂

II OOS on 11/22, looking forward to the interview but from reading other posts looks like I have awhile before hearing back on an interview date.

Does anyone know if OOS students can qualify for IS tuition after first year? It doesn’t look like it is explicitly stated on the website.

Indiana unfortunately does not allow this.

Info here:

I ran into this problem having left Indiana for work only to come back later. The big one is the last bullet point:

“If you take classes before you’ve met the 12-month residency requirement, you may still be eligible for in-state student status later. You must be able to provide convincing evidence that you didn’t move to Indiana specifically for higher education.”

I.e. if you come to Indiana just to come to IU you will be paying OOS for the entirety of your education.

Yeah, from my experience it takes about a month. II OOS (Non SCP) was 8/22 and a follow up email for deciding a date was sent 9/19.

@reisfish Hm, I might DM you to ask what all admissions told you. I am in a similar position I think, I grew up in Indiana, went to undergrad in IN, and my family is there but I have been living/working out of state during my gap year. Despite me keeping my legal residency in Indiana this whole time I think they might not actually give me in state tuition rates...

At my interview day they said (iirc) people who grew up in Indiana but left for a while might get set up with something like, one year OOS tuition, then eligibility for IS tuition during the second year.

That’s exactly what happened to me. I was working in a different state for 1.5 years and the grace period is 1 year unless you leave solely for higher education reasons. Despite me living in Indiana for over 24 years, they charged me OOS for a year before I was able to reclassify.

anyone know how it works if you’re rejected for scp? said you’d still be considered for regular admission

Congrats!!! What did you do different this time around?

Honestly, not too much. I got my application in about a month earlier, I had another year working at my job (mental health directly overseeing patients) and I think I was more confident going into my interview this year and asked a lot of questions about living in the area because the campus I interviewed at is the one I want to rank #1.

Congrats! What day did you get the complete email?

I got the complete email 10/22.

Accepted on 11/21 via mail and portal!!! So excited and still can't believe it! Congrats to everyone else who got accepted!!! And to those who haven't heard back yet or got rejected by this school, I know the feeling sucks but everything will work out the way it's supposed to in the end and stay positive throughout this tough journey!!!

OOS, interviewed 10/2

@reisfish Thank you for letting me know! That is super helpful. I may actually be in better shape than I thought, cause I moved out of Indiana late August so if I decide to go to IU I will easily be able to move back before the "grace period" expires for me.

CONGRATS!!!! What a blessing to receive right before thanksgiving and the holidays!

I’m looking forward to being classmates as OOS and URM as well, if accepted. Re-applicant and going for interview round 2. I received interview invite 1 week ago and noticed all check marks green for things they asked me to send back.

Do you mind elaborating more on the different between ‘Interview Date’ vs. ‘App Complete and Ready for Review Email’
