2019-2020 Northwestern

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think they just updated their platform and took off the "holistic" option. The "complete and under review" option has always been there and has been checked since submitting. When I called and asked last week they said they get lots of calls and confusion about it so I bet they just took it off of portal.

That's too bad. It's nice to at the very least feel like your application is moving along, even if it's more of an illusion than anything, lol.

Did the holistic check mark just disappear?
Yeah it disappeared

if that's the case then I can just hope my application is moving along...

Finally "complete and under review". Secondary submitted 8/17, OOS

I'm also on the "complete and under review" train. I was complete 8/24. So are we pretty confident that this is just a change made to the website platform? Anybody who was in holistic review prior to today still have the button, or did your guys' disappear as well?
was in holistic for a while; mine disappeared as well. now just says complete and under review.

When everyone's holistic review checkmark disappeared, did your application status in the middle of the page also go from "Congratulations!" to "Complete and under review"?
Mine has as well, and it was fairly recent. Last time I checked my portal was I believe Monday, and I had a "congratulations!" header. Now it is complete and under review. Here's hoping for that II for all of us 🙂

Hi everyone, so basically does the disapperance of the checkmark mean that the application is ACTUALLY under review? or did they just remove it for everyone , altogether

I believe they removed it for everyone, sadly. Now there's no way to know if it's under review 🙁

Anyone know if Northwestern is receptive to ITA email if you've already gotten an interview? Will be in Chicago before the dates they've offered :/

How often(likely) does northwestern interview students below their mcat average (all other things ~equal~)? (Aka are they truly holistic)
& do they do silent rejections?

50% of acceptees are below the MSAR-reported median.
Not sure about rejections. I'll check last year's thread.
Edit: Pre-II Rs go out in February (when they stop sending out IIs).

May I ask how (if you know)? I'm IS and thinking about sending them some sort of update to up my chances, any suggestions?
And I doubt he/she knows why NW chose to interview him/her.

Just keep your fingers crossed until the R or II comes... there’s really nothing else you can do unless you have a significant update like a publication

For those of you with IIs, do you remember how long it was after going into holistic review that you received your II? I was marked in review last Monday (before the checkbox disappeared RIP), and I'm wondering how long I should hold out hope... sorry to be neurotic, I just love this school so much!

I wish I knew exactly!

I will say that my ECs and LORs at each interview I've been to have been brought up and regarded as very strong which may have played a factor. I've done years of volunteer service contracts from certain national organizations and my research has stemmed from those experiences; all my LORs have been involved with these projects. The only URM I'm considered is LGBT+.

I think there is a huge emphasis on stats online, particularly in SDN and Reddit threads, but my experience with my current cycle has been that strong essay writing, genuine longitudinal relationships with LOR writers, and high impact ECs can really help you even the playing field with 4.0 528 applicants.

anyone who already interviewed here have any thoughts about what impressed you about the school?
