2019-2020 Pittsburgh

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It also seems that ii go out chronologically so if some receives an ii and was complete way after you be ready for that juicy R

And the working theory is that the latter two are rejects, but the former is passed onto further consideration?

Email within few minutes = automated rejected (aka screened)

Email within few days or weeks = rejected by adcom

It can also be “view later”

Edit: I am leaning towards “view later” because Memelord got an email and an II within the hour. Perhaps due to his minor IA but yet high WARS the computer system passed his app into human review to look at the IA closely.

For people who got a complete email when you submitted, what date did you submit?

Varies, 7/10 here

Okay. I’m buying into the conspiracy now. I thought it was something that flipped in their system and started happening for those submitting secondaries in the last few weeks

Could the email within a few days or weeks then mean "under review by adcom", like the file has been opened?

Alright pack it up boys (and girls and non-binary) Unless y’all wanna do stats analyses at the end of the cycle.

Literally 30 minutes after I commented about buying into the theory, some guy brought in a prescription and his insurance is a UPMC Health Plan. I work as a pharmacist 6 hours from Pittsburgh. Is this what fate is supposed to feel like???

This thread gives me life, I can't wait to see how neurotic we get in November. Just to throw gasoline on the fire, I submitted 7/23 and did not receive a complete email

If you get an II by next week then I’ll believe again.

Very interesting data point!😵

Didn't believe any of this but now I am starting to buy into it... Once the huge R wave hits though we will definitely know more!

We don’t even have to wait till November. The mass R wave comes in September

Okay I’m starting to get sketchy about it again. I was still waiting on one more LOR to get submitted to AMCAS after I had already submitted but still got the complete email immediately.

Aka you’re rejected

Does anyone’s LORs look weird in their portal? I have 5/6 writers listed 3 times and 1/6 (the one I was waiting on) listed 2 times.

ooh ooh i wanna add to the neuroticism!! My GPA and MCAT are both between Pitt's 25th and 50th percentile, but I submitted 07/24 with no complete yet
That’s where I fall as well. I’m just gonna guess their server plays Russian Roulette with secondary submissions and leave it at that.

chill; sarcasm about rejections isn't really cool when everyone is in the same boat and just wants to get into med school
Chill everyone knows this whole complete email is one big conspiracy. I doubt I freaked him out with my comment

Hey hey hey guys and girls. I appreciate the support. I’m going along with the whole joke because what else is there to do?? In all seriousness though, there’s gotta be some sort of randomness and or/luck involved anywhere. You have people looking at thousands of applicants with very similar stats and experiences with the occasional extreme outliers. It can’t be possible for adcoms to look at application after application after application and have a completely clear mindset. Just my thought though.

It looks like all my letters got duplicated twice in the Pitt system, this happen to anyone else?

hey! would you guys think its too late to submit an application here? for reference: 3.86 (3.8 sgpa) // 516 // have a social justice focus on my app?

Dang....Guess I will spend the night......

I lived in Pittsburgh for most of my life... and it's actually a SUPER cool city to see/ in which to hang out! I'd suggest NOT rushing out... and even though it will cost to stay an extra night, STAY and really experience the city! Go enjoy dinner somewhere awesome (Primanti's?!!) and then have a chill night. Otherwise... trying to get out of the city and to the airport for a 5-o-clock-something flight (rush hour traffic starts early in PGH) is really risky and stressful. Don't do it!!

No, it’s not. As long as you are complete before labor day then you are still considered early. Make sure to have your secondary essays complete so you can submit your secondary right away.

I keep getting this advertisement for Pittsburgh’s internal medicine residency. It’s a little soon to be thinking about that!

Hey, if the aLgOrItHm thinks that you're a M4 that means you'll definitely be one soon, right? xP

Meanwhile Facebook can't decide if I should be studying for step 1, if I'm a rising second-year law student, or if I should be applying to Caribbean.

Are they receptive to pre-decision updates? I haven't heard anything since submitting but recently received a research fellowship award that I would like to include in my app
