2019-2020 Stanford

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For people who recently got II's (not KH), what day were they on? Thanks!

Can anyone who has already interviewed talk about the Stanford Medical Student Association (SMSA) Welcome Reception that usually occurs the night before? Basically just want to know when it starts so that I can book my flight, and to get a sense of the atmosphere / what goes on. Thanks! 🙂

It's really, really casual. It's just a chance to get to know the students, the campus, and the interviewees. I'm pretty sure there's nothing "evaluation-based" going on, just a chance for you to have some Pizza My Heart and talk about all the things students want to know about. Let me know if you have any more specific questions!

Accepted too!! I interviewed 10/9. Has anyone accepted received any email correspondence or seen changes in their portals yet? Thank you!

Nope, no changes yet. I'm so overjoyed but I would feel just that extra bit better if I could have an email or a portal change to know for sure. Half of me thinks this is still a dream.

CONGRATS THOUGH! I CAN'T WAIT TO MEET YA!

I feel the exact same! This is such an incredible blessing. Can't wait to meet you and everyone as well!

Also, just wondering if anyone knows for certain whether Stanford Med requires organic chemistry lab? Seems there is no hard requirement listed on the Admissions site but wanted to see if anyone else was not planning on taking it before enrollment. Thank you!

Hi guys! For those who interviewed, who did you send thank you letters to? With the MMI format, I didn't get any interviewers' personal info and would like to send at least one thank you note!

Thanks!

Second mrwup, Dr. Gibbs said they know we're thankful because you wouldn't travel all the way out to Cali and show up in a suit at 7AM if you weren't thankful 😛 So you don't have to send notes!

Let's fuel the paranoia.

Last year, first acceptances went out Feb 7th-8th. A student said they were running later than normal on admissions decisions.
All waitlists reported on SDN came out February 24th, just over two weeks later (it was also the day after their last interview day). No post-II Rs were ever reported, and it seems Stanford may not send Rs at all.
Presumably, a second wave of acceptance came out March 1st, three weeks after the first wave. However, there was only one SDN user who reported an acceptance that date.
One SDN user reported an A off of the WL March 11th, and another reported a straight A on March 12th, a little short of two weeks after the last wave. These are the last acceptances reported on SDN in 2019.

This does not bring me much hope, but thanks for putting in the work.

@docb2 : Congrats! Do you mind sharing what day they're on for II's?
it seems like they scheduled it for me? i got the invite email then immediately after a confirmation for the date. they gave me second weekend in february

I think the 2018-2019 cycle is an outlier because they were so behind (first As in February). So far it seems this year is much more consistent with the 2017 and 2018 cycle, so I gathered more info about decisions because im super bored and this actually only took 10 min to compile.

2017-2018

Jan 16th - first 2 acceptances
Jan 17th - 1 more A
Jan 24th - 4 people reported waitlists

Feb 1st - 3 more acceptances - 1 via portal
Feb 8th - WL email
Feb 9th - 3 Acceptance calls
Feb 26th - Acceptance call

Mar 2nd - accepted via portal
Mar 3rd - 2 WL
Mar 8th - Acceptance calls x2
Mar 15h - 2 more acceptances

2016-2017

Jan 20th - first acceptances x2
Jan 21st - 3 acceptances
Jan 23rd - 2 acceptance
Jan 27th - 2 continued review emails
Jan 28th - acceptance via email/no call
Jan 31st - waitlists x 4

Feb 3rd - Acceptance
Feb 4th - WL
Feb 10th - A x2
Feb 11th - WL x2
Feb 23rd - A

Mar 2nd - A
Mar 4th - WL
Mar 11th - WL
Mar 18th - WL x7

Based on the interview dates of all these reported As and WLs, it doesnt seem to matter when you interviewed as long as you have interviewed.

It seems like there will be a big WL wave this coming week. If you survive that, then I would assume you are still in review and can hear back A or WL at any time in the future. Also I think their 3 dates between Jan and March is a complete lie because people heard back nearly on a weekly basis.

All acceptance calls are late into the night (9-11pm EST). Waitlist is by mid-day emails (noon EST).

Dont lose hope, but be patient 🙂
Thanks for this analysis! It also seems like there might be decent waitlist movement, at least based on the biased sampling that post on these forums.

I was literally going through last year's thread when you posted this haha. I'm still waiting for an II or R, last year it looks like they filled up interview spots by the end of January, but I think at that point people start getting acceptances into their top choice schools, so there are a lot of cancellations. Here's hoping!

This thread has been a rollercoaster of emotions for me the past 6 months. I’ve gone from “no chance” to “wait, I might have a chance!” more times than I can count. Back to getting my hopes up!!!! Complete mid-July, hoping for the best!

The past two years have seen two rejection waves by mid-January, and we haven't seen any this month yet as far I know... :scared:
