2019-2020 UCLA (Geffen)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
FYI I tried to reach out already, also IA student here. The person who answered the phone told me they couldn't even pull up my profile and I would just have to wait...you can try yourself if you get a better answer let me know lol

I guess that other person wasn’t exaggerating when they said even admissions don’t know who gets a secondary. At this point I wonder what chaos is going on with the admissions office.

I got verified in early to mid July and have yet to receive a secondary. IS, LizzyM ≈71, WARS >80, bilingual and Hispanic. At this point do I just give up hope on this school?

What' the purpose of this prompt: "Has there been or will there be a gap between achieving your last degree (baccalaureate or other degrees post baccalaureate) and the expected time of medical school matriculation?" — Is it only to explain the reason why there has been a gap between the last degree and medical school degree?

Yes...

Just straight in the trash then? Hmmm, yah I will still try because nueroticism is a thing, but I don't expect much.
JW did you ever happen to call admissions/get an answer from them? I have IA and still have not received a secondary...it is getting late!

Went thru the thread and didn't see the answer to this but might have missed it — for MSTP, is the "Personal Comments (Is there anything that you would like for us to considered when reviewing your MSTP application)" optional? I feel like I've covered everything I want them to consider ... anything else will just be ~fluff~ ... or should I use it as a "why UCLA"?

I used it as a diversity essay of sorts and discussed part of my background that wasn't addressed by their myriad of other questions (surprising, I know). I think a Why UCLA/program fit essay would be appropriate here though!

Does every applicant receive the PRIME supplemental? I no longer want to be considered, but the page shows up as incomplete and it will not let me submit the application.

Think I've given up on getting a secondary at this point :/ Psychologically feeling like I should add another school on AMCAS just to make up for it
This is the same logic as “I ate a chocolate cake today, so if I eat a salad that cancels it out and I am still healthy.” No, it is just more calories.

Don’t give up. Don’t add more schools if you don’t need to.

I didn't receive it, so not every applicant. Good luck!

For what it's worth, I got the UCLA and UCSF secondaries really fast after submitting my primary, but I highly doubt I'll be half as successful this cycle as many of the top end applicants in these threads.

Which is to say, this seems a bit scattershot/random on their end. Clearly, many of you in here who haven't received secondaries are extremely deserving. I'm sure you'll get them in due time and turn them into something good.

Such kind words 🙂

Awesome! So excited for you.

Keeping all of my fingers and toes crossed for an II here. Please UCLA, you liked me but not quite enough for acceptance last year...I know you'll LOVE the new me this year!!!

BTW, if anyone has questions about the interview day, I may be able to answer from experience last year (assuming it stays the same/similar).

Those with IIs, did you take Spanish courses during undergrad? Curious since that was asked on the secondary although I don't think it's a requirement.

EDIT: Congrats btw to you guys 🙂

congrats to everyone w interviews! quick question - did any of you all apply to PRIME?

for those with II - when you go on the interview tab can you see all the information about the interview after you submitted the day you want to go for an interview? I saw it when I first signed up for my interview but when I went back on my portal right now like 30 min after it doesn't show?

It disappeared for me, too. It did say to print for your records but I was like "nah, it's fine, I'll just check back here."

haha ikr hopefully it's just a glitch in the system. was low key concerned i got the II as a mistake or something
Well the important info for me was PM session started shortly after 11 AM.

I don't remember when the AM session started... somewhere around 8 AM.

Same with me. I'm assuming it's a problem with their system....? I don't think it would just disappear and not come back they do want their interviewees to know where to go.
Maybe that's why they said print for your records? Clearly, this was a test and we failed. 😉
