UC Irvine and UC San Diego gave all applicants ID numbers

I would love if this theory is true, but I remember the UID being mentioned on this thread earlier in this cycle. I think we had UID's before decisions were even released. But perhaps! Honestly, I don't even know what's happening anymore. I just know I'm sad haha

Former Bruin here, my portal has always had my UID from undergrad. If anyone’s ever attended UCLA or been a hospital volunteer within the UCLA system, your UID stays with you and should be reflected on application portal.

I have a UID and have not heard anything back. Interviewed in Nov. Whatever that means. I think it's most likely meaningless.
 
I am confident (edit: not that confident) that they accepted all the way up to their exact class size wanted, sent out the alternate list of people who are essentially “up next” , then as soon as some spots opened up, they sent them out to the alt list people. The reason I think this is because the turnaround from waitlist to accept was literally like 5 business days LOL

I doubt it. I think all 3 programs have their own adcom.

Interviewed for PRIME and Drew, but I got no interview for regular MD.

Does this mean Dec interviews only have a shot at being accepted if spots open up? Don't think we've seen any Dec people accepted on here so far.

I’m also very confused about all that. I agree that it seems odd and that part isn’t making sense to me just yet

So you're saying that accepted students are letting go of acceptances to UCLA this early in the cycle??

Why are you so confident about this besides the turnaround time?
 
Would someone mind calling the admissions office to inquire about the stage of the process (i.e. this whole drama about people getting off the waitlist and whether the class is already filled) and whether apps are still being considered for admission? I'd totally call myself, but I'm currently out of the country. Thank you so much!

I think they only give out decisions once per week, which already happened this week...
 
Alright. Here is a few popcorn bits for you guys. Until late December all people heard from UCLA is As. Then we started seeing some WL and people getting off the WL and new As without the WL before.

Would it make any sense to review, say 50-70% of interviewed applicants, offer admissions and make a wait list out of this group and make people get of the wait list etc, leaving out 30-50% of the other interviewed candidates? I just fail to see any logic behind this.

Interviews are complete. All interviewed applicants have been scored. We’re done. Whoever got in - congratulations! Whoever is waitlisted - hang in there and I hope you get in! Whoever hasn’t heard yet (including myself) - enjoy your other As (if you have then) or good luck at other schools.

I agree, I just don't understand why they haven't released all the decisions if they have them hammered out.

But they haven't even gotten to December yet unless there were zero December SDN acceptances, which seems unlikely to me. Also, something is a bit iffy about the waitlist; literally everyone who was waitlisted on SDN seems to have been accepted, and that's after having only been on the waitlist for like a week. None of us knows what's going on for sure, but I think they still have decisions to give out.
 
These admissions are like only 4 stages of grief. Care to speculate which one’s missing? 😀
 
I don't think UCLA rejects people until the end of the cycle. I also think, they made a mistake by putting people on the waitlist, realized their mistake and took them off 5 business days later...Everyone who interviewed is essentially in a huge pile that gets continuously reviewed weekly, and acceptances are offered on a rolling basis. Rejecting people who have already interviewed just does not make sense until they know exactly who is committed to their school (IMO). I think hope is still alive and we just all have to wait and see how things unfold.
 
I’m assuming they’ve accepted the 130 that fill the class and no more than that. They’re trying not to over accept. As a result, it seems like acceptances will slowly trickle in, possibly into the next several months. Considering how few they’ve interviewed compared to the past, if they’d given out their projected acceptances already (250-300) literally half of all interviewees would have been accepted to this point. Of course I don’t know directly, but highly doubt that’s the case. I’ll just keep waiting and see what happens.
 
Are people just reverse-jinxing in here? Most schools that publish interview/acceptance info to date have offered 50-70% of their spots. Some of those schools interview longer than UCLA, but the idea that UCLA filled their spots while only having a short acceptance wave (waitlist fluke wave) post New Year seems unlikely. More likely is that they are still reviewing many applicants and considering how to best shape the class. Naturally, it’s more complicated than having a list they move down to offer acceptances based on rank. For example, if all women were top ranked they would still admit some men. They want to admit a class with diversity of experience, interests, culture, etc. That is a complex process that requires time and attention.

This. It's the beginning of January, they have no idea whether they have a truly full, committed class because plenty of their acceptees haven't even finished interviewing at other schools yet! Not sure whether MSAR is reliable, but it says waitlisted candidates will only be considered after May 1, 2020. That lends a bit more credibility to the suspicion that the 12/20 waitlist may have been some sort of mistake.

Last year there was almost zero waitlist movement and rumors swirled that perhaps they overenrolled. It might be that they're just trying to avoid that by being more conservative in how many initial acceptances they give out, which makes sense. Let's just give them some time, I think there is still hope. Hang in there!
 
The only thing i can add to this is that I also heard they overenrolled last year, which is part of what led to the admissions shakeup. Additionally, their class is 175 but the "expected number of new entrants on MSAR" is 151, which to me confirms that they overenrolled last year.

This means that your file needs first to be holistically reviewed and scored by 4 different committees post interview.
Then it goes to the admission committee
Then it goes to the scholarship committee if accepted.
Then they send out the email/ make the call.
Though idk the policy on rejection notification.

Pulled this info from last year's thread for Geffen. I'm not sure if this is the system that they have in place for this cycle, but it seems like a lot of review goes into each application which makes me doubt that UCLA has finished reviewing EVERYONE and has sent out all acceptances.

anyone have opinions/suggestions on sending in an update letter for Geffen consideration after you've been accepted here? Heard back on Oct 15th, but didn't receive Geffen.
Have substantial research and entrepreneurial updates. Thank you!

It's probably not going to come across the best way.

That being said, you really don't lose anything trying but I'd probably word it in a non-direct way. Might bring up the cost of attendance as a factor in your decision and then bring up your updates for any relevant merit aid they may or may not have. They may then look at you for whatever is remaining. Anytime you have a "prestigious" award its not the best look asking to be given it so you'll have to be careful in wording.
 
Adding to the anxiety is not my intention but I’m so so confused about the whole thing now… so UCLA already has a waitlist? What does it mean if you just haven’t heard back any results (R/A/WL) at all? I thought I wasn’t the only one in this position?

There are three theories about what is going on, brought to you by SDNs finest internet detectives:

1) All interviewees have been reviewed, ranked, and put into piles of Accepted/Waitlisted/Rejected. UCLA has already sent out acceptances to their full class size, and will only be sending out waitlist and R notifications from this point on. AKA: If you haven't heard back, you're probably an R at this point.

2) The waitlist emails were sent out by accident, and they should have been acceptance emails from the beginning. The reasoning behind this is that the people who got that email were accepted just 5 days later, presumably after UCLA caught their error. This means UCLA is still reviewing and ranking interviewees and we still have more waves of As left before the true waitlist notifications and post-II R notifications begin.

3) UCLA's review process is esoteric, wild, and unpredictable. Don't even try to figure out what's going on.

Personally, I'm inclined to believe 2 and 3.

tl;dr : Patience is a virtue, you have zero control at this point so just go have fun and we'll eventually find out what the heck is going on.
