2019-2020 Washington University in St. Louis

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You would put “you’re in my top 3” in a letter of interest? I have mixed feelings about that. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
“WashU is atleast the second best medical school that, despite not residing in the state of Washington, has the word Washington in its name and I would love to attend”

Haha oh jeezus. Im genuinely curious though about the way people word their letters of interest, it’s kinda a mysterious part of this whole process

Maybe not this late in the cycle, but at Mayo Clinic and at Mt. Sinai the Deans and Assistants verbatim said "We would like to know if we are in your top 3." That was back in September/October though...

Hmmm interesting! So I guess “top 3” is a sign of reassurance for some schools. I could see how some schools might find it off putting though, like after going on a first date being like “you’re in my top 3”

Yeah you don’t wanna be needy. I recommend the DENNIS strategy

Got the call yesterday at 5:30 central time!!!! Was not expecting it to be after business hours. Early January interview and sent letter of intent the day after.

524, 3.66 cGPA, 3.48 sGPA with slow and steady upward trend, first gen & SES disadvantaged

Congratulations!! Do you get call from your interviewer?

Unrelated to the current discussion and probably too late for the current cycle, but for any Muslims interviewing next year, the chocolate covered biscuits they hand out have chocolate liqueur!

About to nerd out because I took a chocolate science class.

I’m assuming you mean chocolate liquor, which is a common ingredient in chocolate products. It actually contains no alcohol whatsoever, it’s just the semi-plastic solid that results from squeezing cocoa beans as part of their normal processing. Should be totally safe for you to eat. All chocolate contains it (in fact it MUST contain it to meet the FDA definition of chocolate!).

Chocolate liqueur is distinct and is a liquid alcoholic beverage.

Learn something new every day! Thank you 🙂

Ugh Wells Fargo called me and my heart stopped when I saw a random number. Sorry for sounding so disappointed mr. Wells Fargo employee

How is this possible :uhno: I'm going on a fruit juice strike (except apple)

Sweet potato fries are decent but I'll take curly fries over sweet potato any day of the week

Oh my goodness how about curly sweet potato fries?! 😱 Forget med school you need to make that a thing

(also sorry to derail the thread guys but hope you're all treating yourselves to your favorite foods and other nice things during this stressful wait!)

thats ok ill be happy to take their spot @ washu adcoms

You and me both 🙂
I hope they get their act together though and soon. The anguish and frustration level is higher in this thread than any I've read, and I've read every top 40 school's thread. Week after week we've had someone say its absolutely going to be "this week" and then nothing, and here we are yet again. I counted 10 who were accepted between 2/28/2019 and 3/4/2019 which correlates to 2/27/2020 and 3/2/2020, so hopefully by early next week we will all know. Everyone who found out after 3/4/2019 were all waitlisted on 3/15/2019, consistent with the ADCOM's "mid March" commitment for this cycle.

Guys I dont want to be the bearer of bad new but the fb group already has 186 people in it (no doubt a lot of current students). Not sure realistically how many more acceptances might come out

inb4 a high-horse “mature” person comes into the thread and goes on about how you applicants don’t deserve anything, medical schools aren’t obligated to give you a quick response, quit being so entitled, you need to learn how to be stoic and control your emotions, world don’t need neurotic doctors, you should be grateful you even get a chance to kiss the feet of adcoms, etc

I like this view better so i'm going to choose to believe it
If you go back to last years thread we had a longgggg conversation about the Facebook group lol... for instance last year around 3/10-3/15ish there were 270+ people in the Facebook group. They could have changed how they do things from last year, but I doubt it.

Can you paste the link? I didn’t know there was a fb group started for this year... time to obsessively watch the numbers.

I'm probably going to submit a letter of intent on Monday. Wash U is by far my favorite choice of the schools I have left and over other acceptances. Hopefully they appreciate my second love letter haha
