2020-2021 George Washington

For those on the alternate list, I was wondering if we have to send an email confirming that we wanting to accept our spot on the list.

We got an email outlining instructions on how to show continued interest. Can’t remember everything, but it was uploading a document with name, amcas ID, letter of interest, and some other stuff

If we wrote a letter of interest prior to our WL decision, do we just write another one?

Also, anyone know how long the letter is supposed to be? I usually make mine like 1/2 page....

Yeah, I literally sent a LOI on Sunday and got my WL email on Monday. I am writing another one because I just figured it's another opportunity to tell them in more detail my reasons for wanting to go to GW. Mine are usually a page.

During the alternate list webinar, the dean said it’s not necessary and you can say ‘refer back to my previous letter’ he said quality>quantity

Saw that there are 130 people in the GW Class of 2025 group. Safe to assume there are still ~40-50 spots in the class to fill even before waitlist action?

Just wondering, do you happen to know whether GW over accepts?

I’ve been keeping on eye on it but I wonder how many people don’t have Facebook profiles.

I think GW overaccepts but less so than some other schools since they seem to hang on to acceptances for later on the cycle as opposed to some other schools where you’re basically interviewing for the waitlist post New Years.

I'd have to agree with you here. An M4 I know at GW didn't join the FB group until several weeks into the year. She also mentioned she wasn't the last one to join either. Also something to note is that even though there are 130 people, that also includes some admins, so can't really base off those numbers

So is the belief that the class will be full -- if not over-filled -- by April, and then WL action follows the Apr 15 & 30th CYMS deadlines? Or does GW give spots in the class that were never filled to WL applicants?

Does anyone else who hasn't heard any post-II news yet repeatedly get the email that says

"Thank you so much for taking the time to visit The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and interviewing with us! I am sorry we could not meet you in person. I certainly hope you achieved a better sense of GW Medicine.

We enjoyed meeting with you and learning more about your passion for medicine. As a reminder, please visit our website for more information about our program and post-interview FAQs...."

I interview 1/28 and still get this email every few days/weeks.

Sounds like an error? I think we are supposed to get it after our interview and thats it. Let them know!

Alternate pool, interviewed 1/14.
Honestly super bummed because this was one of my top 3 choices. Does anyone know how “fluid” this pool really is?
The pool is very fluid. I spoke with an MS1 yesterday and she was accepted off the waitlist near the end of April last year. I've heard tons of stories from GW students about being accepted from the waitlist. So hope isn't over! From their waitlist Q&A, most waitlist movement is April-mid May, so hold tight and send your LOIs!

If we were placed in the alternate pool, can we expect to be notified when we should send letters of interest/intent, or is it kind of expected that these should be sent as soon as we are notified of alternate status?

Did anyone get a notification that they are confirmed on the alternate list post-letter of interest/required info submission through the portal? Or do we just submit that info/letter and assume they received it and added us to the alternate list?

I think we are good as long as the letter was sent by the due date. I assume GW would contact applicants who did not submit anything to notify that their apps were withdrawn

Anyone hear if the fall semester will be fully in person?
I heard from a faculty member that they are strongly considering it, but at the waitlist Q&A, they said it's still up in the air.

During my ADCOM interview, the doc I talked to said they prefer in person but don’t know yet. I think it depends on the vaccine availability. Most of my friends in med school are vaccinated. DC is doing okay with vaccines, I believe they’ve moved on to the second tier of risk groups so I anticipate if all M1s can get vaccinated, it’ll be in person classes.

I got the email about an hour ago and my due date was listed as March 15th.

Is Mar. 15 still the due date for LOI for those who have not heard back about pre-II and post-II (ie. those not yet on the alternate list)?
There was no mention of it, but it wouldn't hurt your chances if you sent one in! They also mentioned that if you sent one in prior to giving that deadline of 3/15, that will still count towards it

I havent been to a webinar yet. Where can I find those? Also thank you for the information!!
The first webinar for alternates already happened! Gw said they are planning to email us with a summary soon, but unsure when that’s going to happen. They may do another one (I think they did two alternate webinars last cycle)

Interviewed 1/29 and still havent heard back yet.. looks like I made it past the WL wave yesterday but also concerned about my status approaching the 3/15 checkpoint - anyone have insights?

Hey guys! I'm new to the forum lol this is so helpful. I was placed as an alternate this past Tuesday. Everyone's talking about a webinar, but I wasn't invited to any webinar. Can anyone tell me about that?

Thank you!

What's the consensus on submitting an LOI by 3/15 if we haven't received a Post-II decision yet? I interviewed early March, and I'm not sure if it would be beneficial or not to submit anything if I haven't even received my decision yet (and probably won't anytime soon).

I think if you are in the alternate pool and you've already sent in your letter with the statement of interest and updates then you should send an LOI in about a month from now as they start to look at waitlists again in April. Do people agree with me?
