2020-2021 Tulane

haha, that would certainly not go over well. the festival I went to is actually pretty community oriented with a very positive message and philanthropic ties to the city but it is still a music festival at the end of the day so I'll take your advice and keep it generic. thx for your feedback!
Gonna go the opposite route and say that this would be an awesome thing to mention. Shows interest in the city. Cultural awareness of NOLA. Not everyone has been to such a festival. Not everyone even likes going to such festivals, so this is something that gives the reader insight into who YOU are. Now, do I think you should focus the whole essay on this festival? No. But I think it would be a great introduction in the larger essay.

Something like..."Festival...but beyond the music, I'm drawn to NOLA b/c..."

I actually agree, this particular festival they are talking about sounds pretty cool with a good impact. Buku/voodoo are pretty much known for drugs lol at least with all my friends that have gone.

thanks guys! I'm going to briefly work it in. it will def make my response less robotic lol

anyone know what date they are reviewing currently? last one I saw was 7/24...

As an "under review" update, I submitted my secondary on 7/24 and got the "under review" email today, 8/24

12,000 applications--600 IIs is very low yield : ( I wonder how they are screening the applications. And it looks like we are only assigned to one screener.

They’ve received 11,000 applications or 11,000 secondary applications?

They’ve received 11,000 applications or 11,000 secondary applications?

According to the details page:

It is important that all potential applicants understand that Tulane School of Medicine receives more than 12,000 applications a year. Applicants are encouraged to submit an application with the necessary supporting documentation as early as possible.

....

Approximately 600 applicants are invited to New Orleans and Tulane School of Medicine each year for interviews. Interviews are held from September through the end of February. Invited applicants are emailed an invitation to schedule the interview.

Not very specific, but my guess is they mean 12k primary.

so it seems like this is one of few schools that reviews in chronological order?

Is anyone else's entry for leadership activities and hobbies very short?

I only have 2 leadership roles to list (about 12 words)

I have one hobby (one word)

As in giving II out or the actual interviews being held? Thx 🙂

on the timeline provided on their website, the interviews were supposed to start next week. The only person I have seen that has gotten one interview was a person on the MD reddit tracker. But the longer I have seen no one else receive one, Im starting to believe this was a false entry on there.

I’m thinking so too. I don’t trust it

Do you guys think it is too late to apply to this school? Just finished my secondary, but my letter writer had some problems and they will be done by tomorrow. Should I contact admissions? 125$ for a secondary is quite a bit.

The admission office won't make the decision for you...I guess they will say you are encouraged to apply. If you think you are a good fit for them, just give it a shot. And it seems they haven't sent out IIs yet, so it's not late. But hopefully, you get your letters soon

I honestly wouldn’t at this point. Even with delays Tulane will be prioritizing early apps first. Someone else might differ in opinion, my 2c

If you fit their mission, I say definitely go for it. Schools are very understanding of the unique challenges this year. I honestly don't think you'll be at much of a disadvantage.

anyone else have all of the required documents in, but the medapp portal is still saying you're incomplete?

I do wonder if the culture at Tulane and Miami is this neurotic? hahaha or i wonder why these threads specifically be going crazy LOL
I think for Tulane at least it’s because we’re used to Tulane pushing early ( on reddit theres a pic of their II waves and they basically send them all by September/October).thus we wanna see movement
