2020-2021 UNC - Chapel Hill

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For those of you interviewing, how long did it take for your "Schedule" tab to appear on the interview portal? I registered on Monday and it still hasn't come up. Is this something that usually appears the day of or should I reach out?

Thank you so much!!! I was called! Unsure if they'll follow that protocol throughout the cycle though.
Sorry for all the questions, but you should have expected it being the first A on here haha...
My next one is, did they also email you? Update the portal? Before the call. I don't wanna have to watch my phone. Too stressful. It's usually on silent.

Have there been any rejections yet? There aren't any in this thread, but I wonder if anyone has heard anything out in the real world

Haha no worries at all. I posted so I could calm *some* of the nerves of waiting until you hear back. Sadly... the first notification that I got from Chapel Hill was the phone call. The portal was not updated until the next day. However, if you have a smartphone you should see that the incoming call is from Chapel Hill. That clued me in that I probably should answer lol.

That doesn't help much, since I live in Chapel Hill. But thank you anyways and congrats again!

No way that can be true. I refuse to accept that if I interviewed in early October, I have to wait THREE MONTHS to hear back. That's unacceptable.

I don't think this is totally unusual- another school I interviewed at said the same thing. Especially this year, this is going to be a long process and schools are doing everything they can, particularly with the increase in applicants!

I will say that in contrast, I got an email in the morning that my portal was updated (on oct 16), and when I went into my portal I found my acceptance letter. I recieved a call later that evening as well from my interviewer to confirm I received the email. Good luck to you all!

Update now that it's finally feeling real, heard back from UNC with an A! IS, ORM, LizzyM 70!

Congrats to you both! If y'all don't mind sharing, when were your interviews?

So nice to hear that you were both accepted!!! Quick superficial question: what did the UNC interviewer wear? Casual, button-down, suit or scrubs 🙂

Thank you!

i had a 4th year med student and don't remember exactly what she wore but she was dressed casual

Just giving y’all a heads up on my experience. Don’t look at the order of interview to acceptance as any fate towards your standing of admission! UNC is pretty slow at getting through them all and it can be out of order at times. I interviewed at one of the earliest dates last year and was accepted in December after several who interviewed after me were accepted! Good luck and just hang tight!

I really appreciate your perspective and it is good to hear that the dates are somewhat arbitrary/slow. Always nice to hear from kind med students. Still a mixed bag of a comment for me though because I really do not want to have to wait until December to know. I'm an impatient bitch, I know. Da stress, it burns meh.

For people who already interviewed: how soon after receiving an II did you complete VITA? I got the invitation last week & I am planning on taking it this weekend after some prep.

I think as long as you finish it before your interview, that should be good. I scheduled my interview about two weeks out, and did the VITA the weekend before my interview.

I did it 2 days after my interview, was that a really bad idea? Does anyone know if that will affect my chances of receiving an acceptance or hearing back sooner? D:

Thank you! That's super helpful to know! I was worried that doing it a week after the invitation was sent was "too late".

I did it 2 hours after my interview. I think you are good. The email said to do it before or shortly after the interview. I doubt it affects your chances. They just can't review your whole app without it or something.

👍thank you

Has anyone heard anything recently?
nope, interviewed 9/21 and so far my only interview. So nervous but also trying to believe the earliest I’ll hear is December :/

TBH I looked through last years thread and it seems that they only did decisions every few weeks early in the cycle and then ramped it up once it got to December. Many applicants who interviewed in September did not hear until December or later so I don't think that this is a bad mindset to have
