2020-2021 UNC - Chapel Hill

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Have you gotten an email or anything yet?
Not yet, but my portal changed last night. I checked around 4pm and it still said awaiting decision. Checked today and it said decided. I was so hoping for in state tuition šŸ™

My portal changed to 'Decided' this morning but have not heard anything...

Also...does anyone know the date that school starts? I can't find any formal calendar's released. I can guess based on last year's, but figured there would be something concrete by this point.
Acceptance letter says July 28th and I saw a calendar that has orientation beginning on the same day.

So i dont post on here much. I just lurk reading every comment. I thought I would say this though - dont spend your time obsessing over the comments here. SDN is def not healthy. Remember that everything will happen in its own time. I am a reapplicant still waiting for a second time and I improved my stats this year and still no word. So please remember to be patient and to take care of your mental health. SDN is not a great place to find moral. just my two sense

Pre-II R. IS, ORM, 518, 3.8+, UNC undergrad.
Interest in primary care, lots of patient contact and focus on underserved. Headscratcher.
What?! I feel like you would be the ideal candidate. I'm sorry to hear this! I'm sure you will end up at a different school that is good!

Sorry to hear it. My stats aren’t quite as good as yours but I’m also pretty surprised I didn’t even get a II since I’ve gotten them from low yield OOS schools. Just goes to show the whole process is unpredictable sometimes I guess.

Thank you! I am fortunate enough to have another acceptance this cycle. But i think it definitely goes to show how unpredictable everything is.

Indeed a head scratcher. So sorry. Did you apply at Brody?

pre-II R for me as well, IS

Maybe I'll get the A from Brody soon šŸ¤žI've heard the rumor that NC applicants only get in to one or the other, so who knows.

Sorry to hear the R wave. Hope you get into Brody and other schools. The rumor has been dispelled here (by someone who have been accepted to both) and would require some coordination between the two schools.

I'm really sorry to everyone who got bad news today! I've been where you are and I know how hard it is. But like someone else said, these things will happen in their own time. The Rs hurt in the moment, but I truly believe that I ended up where I did at the right time for me, not that I knew it at the time. I fully believe that all of you who were called to this profession will get it eventually. I have no doubt I'll be calling you all Doctor someday šŸ™‚ Don't give up!

I was accepted with a 500 MCAT and low volunteering so I wouldn’t be too worried.
@drdp69 congratulations that is awesome! Are you non-trad? Would be great if you could share your work/ECs. If I do need to reapply after masters this would be extremely helpful ! Thanks

So at my interview day they told us to send any thank-you notes through Attendify. Did anyone do that and how? I found my interviewer in Attendify and it looks like I can message them, but it feels odd to basically DM my interviewer lol
I sent a DM and got left on read. There are read receipts. But then I got accepted, so I guess it worked. But actually, I'm VERY confident they don't care. I wouldn't.

They actually told y'all to do that? I mean, if they told you to, then do it, but I guarantee they don't care, and tbh I'd be surprised if most of them even know how to check their messages on attendify. I didn't know how to do it until like a few weeks ago.

I just emailed my interviewer after my interview and got a response back and an A so I don’t think using email is a big deal either

All due respect...an MCAT of 500 is a very unusual number to receive an II, or an acceptance--you must have something considerable on your application! Maybe you had a lot of experience doing other work in health care. Either way..congrats! Nobody will ever care about those numbers again!

I was accepted with a 505 MCAT, so it's definitely not unheard of. Like one of the current students said ,"UNC doesn't necessarily accept the highest ranking students, but they definitely accept the best students." šŸ™‚ But yes, nobody will ever care about those numbers again, thank goodness...

sent my interviewer a thanks in attendify and they haven't even seen it lmfao āš°ļø

I worked full-time for 5 years in healthcare with some of that working as a MA (so one-on-one with a physician). My ECs were pretty weak as well. I participated in college marching band and a music fraternity. I did complete the MED program through UNC during the summer 2019 which I contribute to by success.

Good luck, my friend. much respect.

Hey all so just wondering about their pre-req requirments and I see that they don't accept AP credit anymore. Does that mean I have to take statistics over the summer if I get accepted prior to attending or will they waive that requirement if it's only one class?

Current undergrad here, and I asked advising the same question. I was told to take Statistics again despite earning credit through my AP exam :/

Hm I just realized this too. I just had my interview here but I also have only taken AP statistics. The website says "If you are accepted, the acceptance is contingent upon successful completion of all required coursework and degree granting programs, therefore, all final official transcripts from all U.S. and Canadian institutions attended will need to be submitted by July 1st of the matriculating year for verification of successful completion of all requirements and coursework." Does this mean we need to have completed statistics by July 1st if we're accepted???

I think so. I don't mind taking it just the timing scares me if I can complete it by July 1st.

another tricky part is that some people may not hear back soon enough by registration deadline. i guess you just schedule it in and then see....

I haven’t taken statistics even though I’ve used it a lot in my past research and I have a math minor. They still told me I have to take it, and thus I just started my statistics class yesterday. Kind of annoying because it’s the only class I needed and I graduated from undergrad 4 years ago.
Edit: I haven’t even been accepted, I haven’t heard back from my interview in October. But I’m taking it just to be prepared in case I am accepted.
