Any current EVMS students that can give advice for the interview?
Not a current student but I interviewed in March 2021 (hence waitlisted then didn’t get in). They were just two interviews with one faculty member each I believe. One had a student there too, and each one was I believe 45 minutes? They were pretty straight forward based on the interview research I did. Nothing caught me off guard. They each had a medical ethics question. I connected really well with my interviewers so there was a good amount of just getting to know each other too. Hope this helps at all!Any current EVMS students that can give advice for the interview?
from what they said on their application and such I don't think they require everyone to prove their residency (it says specifically residency documentation may or may not be required so I think it depends on your situation haha). I submitted mine 07/25 (IS) and got an email a couple days later asking for documentation, but I'm also a weird case due to being an embassy kid. Still waiting for the complete email though 🙄Even though I’m an IS applicant, I got a complete email on 8/2 (submitted on 7/29) and I’ve yet to receive an email asking for my proof of residency. As you said, this school makes no sense
LET’S GOOOOOOII received just now 8/29.
YOOO IS or OOS?II received just now 8/29.
Yay Congrats!! When did you submit your secondary and when did you receive the complete email?II received just now 8/29.
Congratulations. Did your portal change?LET’S GOOOOOO
When I got my II, my portal did not change. I had to call the admissions office to schedule a II date after getting an email stating that I had a II.Congratulations. Did your portal change?
it took me 15 days to be complete. They sent me an email saying I was complete. I never reached outHello all, can anyone share how long it took them to get a complete email or if they reached about if their application was complete?
Keep your head up! It's not over till it's over. But side note that last sentence made me crack up LOLFor those who were still curious, I combed through the prior years and it seemed that people who got completion really quickly mostly got R's. Thank god Spirit Halloween has started to open again because I needed to replenish all of my clown makeup for having hope.
I feel like that “not selected to interview” is an error. Call the admissions office and ask about this with them.Hey guys - I received an II on 9/24 and called up to lock my interview date for the 21st (like it said to do in the email). Today, I received an email saying that I was not selected for an interview. Has anyone had this problem?
Related note: has anyone received any email correspondence confirming interview appointments from the medical school after scheduling their interview?I feel like that “not selected to interview” is an error. Call the admissions office and ask about this with them.
I have not! but I remember her telling me on the phone that I can expect an email a week before the interview with the link/infoRelated note: has anyone received any email correspondence confirming interview appointments from the medical school after scheduling their interview?
Oh shoot, I was complete 8/11 so should hear soon...sorry about the R though dudePost-Secondary R this AM - complete on 8/10
I’m sorry to hear that. I wish you the best of luck onPost-Secondary R this AM - complete on 8/10
when you say complete, does that mean when you received the complete email or when you submitted. Asking because EVMS seems to send complete emails 1-4 weeks after all materials have been submittedOh shoot, I was complete 8/11 so should hear soon...sorry about the R though dude
complete email = complete date for any school! EVMS does have some delays with their completion process, but complete date is still when you get your emailI’m sorry to hear that. I wish you the best of luck on

Congratulations. Did your portal change too?II 9/14, OOS, Stats in Bio! Submitted and Complete on 8/15! Super excited about EVMS!
I just checked and it has not changed.Congratulations. Did your portal change too?
Thank you.I just checked and it has not changed.
Yep I'm in the same boat. IS, complete 8/2, but no proof of residency requested yet.Even though I’m an IS applicant, I got a complete email on 8/2 (submitted on 7/29) and I’ve yet to receive an email asking for my proof of residency. As you said, this school makes no sense
Based off what has been said in this thread, it looks like if you’re an IS applicant and are marked complete without having to send proof of residency, then things should be okay. Not 100% sure if this is true as it’s just a theoryYep I'm in the same boat. IS, complete 8/2, but no proof of residency requested yet.
Once again, you’re the saving grace of this cycle. Thank you for providing all of this!!!!My experiences with the EVMS interview: The best interview I've had by far! Super conversational with two medical students and a faculty member of admissions.
Questions asked:
What are three of the most major issues in healthcare today, in your opinion?
You are an M4 on a surgical rotation and your instructor smells of alcohol. You're about to do surgery with him. What do you do?
When EVMS says it wants to be the nation's 1# community-focused school, what does that mean to you and how does a school go about being community focused?
How do you exhibit being humble?
What are some qualities in a physician that you think is important? How do you exhibit those qualities that you just listed?
A physician made an error with a medication. How do you address this?
What do you know about implicit bias? Have you witness this? What are some of the ways we can address implicit bias?
Protip: I was not asked about abortions, but EVMS (in the past) has asked about what you would do if a 14 year old asked for an abortion without her parents knowledge. In Virginia, a minor must have a guardian or adult sibling's permission to have an abortion. In addition to this, 24 hours before the abortion, the minor must also have an additional permission from another guardian or adult sibling.
Also, really look into the community service opportunities that the school offers, such as the HART and NEST program so that you have something to relate yourself to and mention during the interview to really show interest in EVMS.
Things the students said the school can improve on: increasing study spaces because some students hog the new study rooms. Increase exposure and "marketing" for EVMS, as many people don't realize the local and international impact the school has and also its scientific research.
For future applicants, EVMS is looking for a student that values the human condition above all. They stressed during the interview that they're not looking for a 4.0 GPA or a 518 MCAT. They're also not looking for publications or an Einstein. They're looking for people with good hearts, who go above and beyond expectations, and are willing to educate patients every step of the way. They want a student who is most likely to engage in community service during the school.
The student body is really friendly, collaborative, and enjoy having cook outs on the beach (I thought that was cute!).
Overall, EVMS really increased in my rankings and I enjoyed my time interviewing with them. Definitely the most friendliest school (they called me the day before my interview and wished me luck. They said that I may be nervous but to remain calm and remember that they just wanted to get to know me.)
Based on the verbiage on the website, it seems that you "can" have a non-science faculty letter but it isn't mandatory. It says "two MUST be from science faculty" and "the other letter CAN be from non-science faculty." MUST signifies a mandate as CAN means it's more of an option. So if you have 3 letters from science faculty, then that should be OK. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...Does anyone know if they will consider your application without a non-science faculty letter? I submitted both my primary and secondary without ever realizing they had this requirement.
I emailed them, and they replied that I'll be okay without the non-science faculty. Also, feel free to email admissions if you're still unsure.
Complete 8/1 OOS, no communication yet. Does EVMS usually wait until the end to send most pre-II Rs?
I am in a similar situation, so I emailed admissions today and they said:Complete 8/1 OOS, no communication yet. Does EVMS usually wait until the end to send most pre-II Rs?
LOL I was complete well over 4 weeks ago. Here's to hoping!I am in a similar situation, so I emailed admissions today and they said:
Thanks for your e-mail. We did receive your application and it is currently in review. Please note it can take upwards of 4 weeks for the review and processing of applications due to high volume. Thank you for your patience, and best of luck to you this cycle!
almost 8 weeks, is there still hope?!LOL I was complete well over 4 weeks ago. Here's to hoping!
I had an interview here last week. I do agree that the interview didn't allow me to really show who I am. I had a few interviews at other schools and this was the only one I felt this way. Everyone was very nice but they had a short list of questions that I feel did not allow me to talk about myself and my experiences. I would not feel too bad about it because we were all asked the same questions. For anyone who had an interview today- what were your thoughts? I felt great about the first half of the day. I got to ask a lot of questions and have a much better feel for the school now. I was excited going into the interview portion but I felt like the questions that I got didn't allow me to really show who I was. It felt more like an interrogation, which made me nervous and stumble a bit. Not super conversational. I'm bummed because EVMS was my top choice and also my only interview so far. It's my fault for not preparing as well for this type of interview. Should have done more research. Anyway, I'd love to hear how other people felt about today.
Complete opposite. Panel was very sweet and was a conversation. I think interviews vary in terms of the type of people who interview you. I'm sorry that they were mean and interrogative to you.For anyone who had an interview today- what were your thoughts? I felt great about the first half of the day.
