2022-2023 Eastern Virginia

Pre secondary rejection. Complete on 8/25.
Same here! Second R so far, and both are from schools in Virginia. I'm beginning to see a pattern here, but because I am a scientist and 2 data points are not enough to extrapolate a trend I shall patiently await further evidence to corroborate my hypothesis 🙃.

Around 45 minutes. I was asked questions that the school wanted to hear (about 5 questions, one of which was an ethical question).
It was just one interview with multiple people right

Yes, one interview with three people interviewing you. Five questions and then they can ask their own sub questions. Like name three qualities a physician should have. Then describe how you represent that quality. They were all really sweet to me though.

oh I had 2 people! lol

Seconding everything MCAThiccy has said so far. This interview really has me spoiled for the rest of the cycle because I don’t think I’ll get a more relaxed, supportive, and most importantly short interview experience. Most schools seem to go upwards of an hour and actually grill tf out of you which gets tiring and nerve wracking.

Interviewing in 25 mins this is my top choice please please please
You'll be alright. Make sure to name drop a volunteering experience that the school offers and they'll really like it. "I like the fact that students get to volunteer with the X program because of [personal relation]."

UPDATE: I got an email this afternoon asking for the proof of residency documentation. So maybe I'll be complete after I submit that? This school makes no sense smh
They don't hold your application when they're waiting for your residency documents.

Where do people see whether or not they are complete in EVMS's portal? I submitted my supplemental app in early Aug but never received a complete email.

I was complete August 5th and haven't heard anything... is it too early to send an intent letter? Or should I not even bother since no II (yet-- fingers crossed). Unfortunately, I don't have an update letter besides adding volunteering for abused horses which I don't think they will care about lol. This is my top choice!!

Pre-secondary R lol. Have 3 IIs and 3 rejections so far, all rejections are from schools in Virginia. Virginia really doesn't like me LOL

Had my interview recently. Definitely be well versed on the school and the curriculum.
Also be able to talk about the community service they that you are interested in.
The vibe was nice. 3 interviewers on the panel. 1 student, 1 MD, and 1 community liason. Each person was nice, didn't feel like grilling at all. They have a set of questions they ask all students, but can have their own follow up questions and extra questions. If you have research be prepared to talk about it in terms of what you'll research while in school.

Know their mission and that they are heavily community service oriented. This will be key and it came up in most of my questions. If you've worked with the underserved highlight that in every answer you can.

It wasn't horrible and I really liked the people who interviewed me. I was really nervous and I think they could tell, but they were very sweet. I loved how passionate they were when talking about the school and area. I'm pumped to potentially go there. Hopefully we'll start hearing back soon.

just got my EVMS secondary after submitting AMCAS I august lol... is it worth doing it? I feel like its so late

so we thinking decisions might be released this saturday for post interview?

I submitted my secondary on 8/8 and still no complete email—anyone else still waiting? I already emailed the adcom on 8/19 and was essentially told to be patient. Should I email again? I’m IS and don’t want to throw out a state school

Definitely don't. You might ruin your chances by reaching out so often. Just be patient.

some mentors have told me wait until December for letters of intent! That was you can also include any significant updates 🙂

Do you think the info session was helpful for the interview? Im having a hard time rescheduling things with work and I was planning on just attending a different Wednesday.

Good morning! After not receiving a complete email for a bit, I called the school in August, rather than email. They were incredibly receptive, and afterwards, I received a complete email within hours. Since it's your state school and important to you, that might be an option! Best of luck to you!

I don’t think so. I also had trouble going because of work and I had no issue with my interview. Just brush up on the school before hand and you’ll be fine!

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions! I left them a voicemail today and got an email a couple hours later from the person I gave my residency documents to. Apparently her email consisting of “looks fine” meant that my application was complete. I thought she was just talking about my residency documents being complete, but turns out that was my application complete email. She was very friendly about it, which I appreciated. Hopefully I haven’t annoyed them too much!

II for me today too 🙂 OOS and I want to say I was finally marked complete towards the end of August
II today. OOS. Verified: 8/1, secondary received: 8/22, submitted: 9/20 completed:9/21. They assign you an interview date which is interesting.
Congratulations to both of you! Would you mind sharing stats? I'm OOS LM 68 and was complete on 9/8 but haven't heard anything

<3.0 uGPA, 3.7 SMP, 514 MCAT, super non-trad, URM. Numbers mean nothing though without experiences and context.

Current EVMS M4. Ask me anything.
What was your interview experience like when you applied? Any advice you would give current applicants? What are your favorite and least favorite parts about being a student at EVMS?

Thank you so much for offering up your time 🙂

Are there many opportunities available to pursue research? I recall during the interview info session current students mentioned a summer program between M1 and M2…Thanks!

My interview felt intense . The reason - school needs to standardize to an extent to make sure the applicants are evaluated the same way . But trust the process !
Advice- remember that there is something special that each and every one of you has . Be proud of YOU. Stay confident and humble . Show your energy . Show why you want this .

Favorite:
1. People - best administrative stuff by far . Amazing professors . They are always available
2. Free tutoring for anyone
3. True pass fail
4. Your percentile doesn’t go into deans letter unless you are top 10%. It’s huge for residency . Basically, you can be the bottom of your class and no one will know
5. Great remediation - if you fail exsm, not a big deal . You just retake it . They are not there to fail you - they are there to help you learn
6. Good research opportunities- I published several things . There are ppl who will help find opportunities if that’s what you want .
7. Free uworld!!!!
