2014-2015 Saint Louis University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
thanks for the brochure SLU, but I'd much rather have an interview invite! I already know all about your school!

I got one today too! Still waiting to actually hear from them as well lol

Yeah, I got it too.

I also got the pamphlet, and this afternoon I received an email just about the school's mission statement with the subject line "Saint Louis University School of Medicine." My excitement thinking it was finally an invitation to interview turned to another one of those 'arrg' moments -- I have 25 applications completed around mid-July without any word from anyone. No rejections, interviews, anything. Why must they tease us so?

anyone else get the pamphlet in the mail? Thought it was a snail mail rejection LOL

I did, I already gave them my application fee donation, pretty confusing haha. Oh well

I got the same thing. Hoping this leads to good news soon!

SLU is my top choice so I'm so excited (and nervous) for my interview! I've already been rejected at Mayo and Tulane so I hope this one will work out. Good luck everyone! Maybe we'll all get in... wishful thinking. 🙂
Oh and I was complete late July.

I didn't apply to SLU but actually got the email too lol. gotta admit, it did make me read up on the school, and I think I'm gonna add it haha. good marketing

Congrats! Tulane and Mayo are off their respective rockers to refuse you an II with those stats. Good luck at SLU!

Just checking in….SO EXCITED for this interview. Hoping to hear some more good news and success from people on here…SLU seems like a great place!

Ugh I'm in the SAME boat (also applied to 25 mid-July) and have heard NOTHING (except a hold for GW). This is such a character-building experience...

So I found my interviewer. L. James WIllmore. Lol should I email him and say wassup? Hahaha

No but for real lol

Just randomly checked my status on the portal and in red it says "Your application is on hold for further review." ... guess i'm on hold... anybody else have this?

Same...Anyone knows if this is basically a rejection? Or do people actually get interviews after being on hold?

Just got an interview invite this morning!!!! the little hold must have been an indicator woo🙂

Yeah no kidding....

Can anyone tell me about the surrounding area of the school of medicine? I'm little scared of St Louis

II! Had the hold status this morning as well - glad it wasn't anything bad!!

Congrats on the interview!!! And looking on google maps the area looked beautiful to me. Go check it out.

Anyone have any interview tips for Dr. James Shoemaker (he's the interviewer I was assigned)?

Also, what is the interview style like? Can anyone who has interviewed here this year shed any light on their questions/experience?

Can anyone recommend me any good places to see/eat at around the area? I'm flying in a day early, so I'd like to do some explorin'. c:

The Loop is a pretty good young-person, touristy place. Not too far from SLU, right next to WashU. Blueberry Hill is there, a stl landmark,. good toasted ravioli and food. IMOs is our traditional st louis style pizza. The central west end is a cool place too, lots of activity at night, its right next to BJH/washu med. SLU is in the S Grand area which is also nice, there are some cool pockets of restaurants bars. As I recall, The King and I thai restauran (my fav thai place in STL) is on S. Grand and pretty close to SLU.

YES to visiting the Loop! I go there all the time lol.

Haha, I see that you're a WashU student ! I spent so much time there as a washu student also lol. As a St. Louisan and WUSTL alum, the Loop is a great place to go if its your fist time in St. Louis...or if you've been here for a year...or even 4 years.... after 15 or so years... Lol.

To the OP and others -- Dogtown is a cool area also, as is the area around McGurks (which actually come to think of it is SLU territory). You could and should check out John D McGurks irish pub if your going to be there for a weekend night, good music and atmosphere, others bars around there are cool too like Molly's. Please don't go to the landing, that is where all the college kids from the bi-state area and cardinals fans go to get schwasted (though it certainly can be fun....you know what , check out lacledes landing too!)

I second the Loop and would suggest City Museum if you want to climb things and go to the best playground for adults ever!

Sounds like I've got plenty to explore in St. Louis!! Thanks all 🙂

ps. if anyone wants to join me, feel free!! we can get rid of pre-interview jitters together 🙂

only dates in october and none of them really work... hope they open more interview days...... still haven't scheduled

I would recommend calling them and letting them know, or else it might take a while before they open up dates

Not sure if SLU would do this, but I know some med schools don't fill up all the spots offered each admissions date (Hofstra comes to mind). So they might have a few spots available on the dates, but aren't listing it on their website so they can save it for people for whom available dates don't work.
