2014-2015 Saint Louis University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You should be fine, but wait to schedule your flights until you get the email confirming when your interview is (so you have to choose your date first). My interview 1:15-2:00, and I think I was in the last group; some had theirs earlier and were done at 1:00 after the financial aid talk so if you have a morning one you could potentially leave earlier.
Thank you for the quick response! I just found out that my interview is at 2:30. How long are the interviews? also, do you mind sharing who your interviewer was?

Hey guys, do you think a 2:40 pm flight out of St. Louis after my interview is really cutting it? I've got a morning interview so I should be done at 1, and I've got a family friend who can pick me up and drop me off at the airport which Google map tells me is 20 minutes away from the school...

Does SLU send rejections or hold apps until the end of interview season? Been complete since 7/25 with silence (and it's deafening) 🙁
Have you looked through previous year's threads? That's probably the best way to tell. Let us know what you find out!

I was wondering the same thing. I was complete mid-august and I know some IIs have been granted to people complete in early September, which made me nervous. I read through some of last year's thread and I didn't see many rejection posts pre-II (but people may not have been posting about it). I did see however that after the first wave of acceptances in mid October, people complete in July and August (who were passed over the first time around) were given IIs in November. So if we haven't heard anything and if we have been passed over this time (not to say we for sure have), there is still hope that they'll come back to us!

edit to add: I like to stay positive and think I'm not out of the running until I have an actual rejection in hand. Best of luck to you!

My interview was around 45 minutes; I don't want to say who it was, but it was very relaxed and conversational!

Sorry for the double post- but for people with 10 am interviews, did you go directly to the interview or are you supposed to check in somewhere beforehand? Just from the interview tab and email received I can't really tell

Interviewing in a week. LizzyM 70ish. Very excited given what I've read! Anyone have suggestions for hotels nearby? Is it worth renting a car or just take a taxi/shuttle from the airport?

That's perfect. I have a car, so I wanted free parking, but I just want clean, not fancy. Thanks!

Great interview. Great school. Great people. I loved it and I interviewed with Dr. WIllmore the head honcho. He such a cool laid back guy. My interview was strictly about Canadian football and he told me about a cool restaurant I should eat at. He keeps stating that interviews are overrated haha. And STL is an amazing city! The weather was GREAT and I went to the arch. It was beautiful. The view is nice but not worth 10 bucks Imo.

Hello!

I will be interviewing with Dr. Railey later this month, has anyone interviewed with him yet this cycle or before? thank you!

I loved the day! Literally everyone I met was so genuine and friendly. Great impression and very relaxed day. I was nervous beforehand but there is definitely no reason to be. And now the waiting begins...

Does anyone know if their interviews are closed or open file??
Open file! The interview discussion was primarily AMCAS based, with some standard interview questions mixed in. Straightforward and conversational!

Has anyone interviewed with Dr. Rahimi? Pediatric cardiologist...

how generous is SLU with financial aid? Do very many students get scholarships or other institutional aid?

From what they told us on the interview day, everyone can apply for $5k a year scholarship based off of personal income, etc, and up to $10k a year scholarship based off of personal and parents' income, etc. It's all need based, no merit scholarships. Most students, it seemed, get outside scholarships or aid, or use Stafford or Grad+ loans. That's what I took from it anyways!

SLU is expensive, from what I hear. My mom used to work/teach at the medical school. Wash U is way less expensive for most people because it has more money to give out to students. Take a look at the tuition vs average indebtedness for SLU: $49,080.00/$187,266.00 vs Wash U: $54,050.00 / $102,519.00.

That being said, you WILL save a lot of money simply by living in St. Louis. I live close to SLU in South City and pay $620 a month for two bedrooms, 1200 sq ft total. The local eats are fantastic and affordable. There's a lot of stuff to do in the Lou for cheap or free. Best city to be broke in, imho.

To those who recently received II's, what dates were available?

I received the II on October 3rd and I'm sorry but I dont really remeber a lot of the available dates. I know October 27th (my date) and 28th were available. As well as November 3rd and a few other Mondays in November/December. Sorry I couldnt be more help.

So excited for good news to come from SLU today 🙂 Anyone knows at what time they usually start sending out acceptances?

Congrats! Accepted via what method of transmission?

I'm guessing this wave of acceptances means that there will be a round of interview invites at the end of the week???
