ACCEPTED!!!!!!!! I'M GOING TO BE A DOCTOR!!!!!!!

Interviewed 9/29 🙂)))))

This was not my best interview but it goes to show that you really never know what's going to happen, so hang in there for all those that are waiting to hear back 🙂)))

Congrats!! And I had the same experience where this interview definitely was NOT my best interview at all and I still somehow got accepted. So best of luck to anybody that's still waiting to hear back - anything's possible! 🙂

Just got an II, I was wondering what the interview schedule will be like? What time will it start/end? Since I need to fly from NY and back.

It depends on when your interview is. If it is in the morning then that is when your day will start and it will end around 1 after the tour and lunch. If your interview is in the afternoon then your day starts with the tour around 11 and will end after your interview.

You can call the office and ask them to schedule you at a time that would allow you to fly back and forth. I called, and they were very accommodating about my schedule.

Does anyone know how to set up our passwords to submit the 100$ deposit post-acceptance? Thanks in advance!

Fellow acceptees, all we have to do to keep our spot is just pay the deposit and on the portal accept the admission offer, correct? Getting a bit paranoid lol

Hi SDN!

I'm an M1 at SLU. I lurked last year's application thread while applying, and it was a great help. Thought I'd return the favor and answer any questions anyone might have about SLU, the campus, the city, etc. I will do my best to answer what I can. Sorry if I'm a bit slow to reply; we're in the middle of Anatomy, so it's easy to lose track of time!

I also apologize to any past interviewees who had the luxury of passing by any of us while we were wearing our anatomy scrubs!

How safe would you consider the area, especially with the riots going on currently in St. Louis. I know that in St. Louis especially, it can skip from nice to dangerous within like a block, so I'm curious how you feel the area around the campus is, as well as where most students live.

Thanks for offering to answer our questions! Do you mind sharing your reasons for choosing SLU? I think that always introduces elements of a school or student body that I might have overlooked.

I was really impressed with SLU during my interview day, and was interested in the emphasis on student wellness. In terms of the grading system, is SLU a true P/F school (with no internal ranking)? Thanks again for taking the time to answer questions!

So I honestly wouldn’t be too concerned about safety. There are plenty of places to live in St. Louis which are perfectly safe. Many students live out in the Central West End, and I’ve never heard any serious concerns about safety. A lot of people live within walking distance of the hospitals/campus (including myself), and it’s a reasonably safe area. Having said that, I don’t generally go walking around alone at night, but I probably wouldn’t do that living in any major city. As far as the protests, recent protests have come close to the area of the school, but have not really had a direct impact on the students or the medical campus.

To summarize, no one really is too concerned with safety day to day. Just like any major city, there is sometimes violent crime nearby, but if you’re smart when going out at night you’ll be okay. Don’t let it scare you; it concerned me when I moved into the city, but you figure it out pretty quickly and then it’s no big deal. I can elaborate further on all of this if you need me to though.

Sure! SLU was not my first choice school until after I interviewed. I remember being initially surprised how happy and satisfied the students and faculty seemed during my interview. The school definitely sold me on their approach to student wellness and their resulting curricular modifications, which I can go into more detail about if anyone is interested. I also really liked the simulation lab (which I’ve spent time in) and the ability to take an elective class every semester. Another major reason SLU clicked with me was due to their heavy emphasis on community involvement. It’s not mandatory to do these things, but the school strongly encourages getting involved in volunteer activities and provides many many ways you can have an impact (clinically and non-clinically). I know there are a ton of little details which probably swayed me as well, but these were the big ones that stuck out.

As far as class ranking, I will reserve making a complete statement for now. My understanding is that there is no internal rankings for the class, which is very uncommon. I’m a little uncertain about differences in clinical years, but I will find out what I can and let you know. I can definitely tell you that my classmates and I are very cooperative, and everyone is only really competitive with themselves. It’s a very refreshing environment to work in.

Did anyone receive any IIs this past week?

I still can't decide whether to go to my interview at SLU or not... Is the $5,000 scholarship the only shot at any financial aid other than loans? I don't want to close doors on myself but the wallet is just hurting badly now :hungover:

Great interview. Great school. Great people. I loved it and I interviewed with Dr. WIllmore the head honcho. He such a cool laid back guy. My interview was strictly about Canadian football and he told me about a cool restaurant I should eat at. He keeps stating that interviews are overrated haha. And STL is an amazing city! The weather was GREAT and I went to the arch. It was beautiful. The view is nice but not worth 10 bucks Imo.

Did you send thank-you note to him right after the interview? If yes, did he reply?

SLU sent me a random information brochure via snail mail yesterday, but I've been complete there since early September. Makes me wonder if they lost my app 🙁
I received it too. I've been complete since 9/28 and haven't heard anything else.

randomly just got an II here... complete 7/16 haha. Guess there is hope for those who are still waiting! Not 100% if i'll go to this one or withdraw.
Literally only 4 interview dates available... all in december. weird.

Congrats!!! And about the scheduling...when I got my II, I only had 4 dates to choose from, all within a month's span from late Sept-late Oct, so it looks like maybe they just schedule in blocks of 4 weeks or so?

ah okay! makes sense, thanks. I was hoping for something in Jan/Feb so i could minimize the amount of work I take off at once but thankful either way! 🙂

II this afternoon! Complete 8/7, LizzyM 72. I'm interviewing with Dr. Robin Chamberland (Pathology).
Does anyone know what SLU's rough post-interview acceptance rate is? I can't seem to find that statistic!

hmm that would be interesting if they did... guess we will have to wait til friday to put your hypothesis to the test!
For some reason I think the committee meets on Thursdays. I don't remember where I saw this though. Hopefully some decisions will come out on Friday? Maybe? PLEASE?

II today as well! I thought I was down for the count at this school, so this was such a pleasant surprise! @aov12 How do you know who you are interviewing with already? Was it in a confirmation email?

According to USNews, SLU accepts 434/871 OOS post-interview and 83/92 IS post-interview. So if you're OOS, you have about a 50/50 chance at this point.

congrats! yes, it was in a confirmation email...i think the confirmation is supposed to come automatically within a couple of days, but i knew i wanted to interview in the morning (so i can fly out in the afternoon) so i called the admissions folks and they scheduled me for a specific time. they are super receptive to that if you're interested.
