@Paradism, @Yummyinmytummy , @Buttermellow ... Can you all speak to the role of religion influencing curriculum at SLU? I understand procedures such as abortion are not taught at Jesuit institutions. I am considering obstetrics as a possible interest and am very pro-choice and pretty liberal, not religious, but feel much of the other parts of the Jesuit mission of service are in line with my background. This issue never occurred to me before I was at SLU and a current student mentioned that certain procedures are not taught at Jesuit schools. Would any gaps be potentially filled by clinical rotations at other institutions? Thoughts? All the feedback has been super helpful and this is kind of my last real issue that I haven't asked about....

Well as an M1 I'm probably going to be of limited help answering this question, but I will try to give some perspective on things. I feel similarly in that I respect and admire many Jesuit principles, though I am not a particularly religious person. I've never felt like religion has played a role in the quality of teaching and instruction during my first year at SLU. However, I don't know how much information is provided about abortion and other procedures during the OBGYN rotation, but I suspect that learning those types of procedures would probably fall under residency training and not during a 6 week clerkship anyway. It might benefit you to try and find out information about expectations and goals of students during OBGYN clerkships at various medical schools to get a better idea of this. Point being, if that kind of specialized training is important to you, I imagine you could obtain clinical exposure through away rotations and during residency. Hopefully an upperclassman or another student more knowledgeable about OBGYN can give you more focused advice!

Finally received my decision today: alternate list. Not surprised really because I just didn't click with this school as much as places I've been accepted.
 
Accepted today. Interviewed 1/13. LizzyM 69. Will submit withdrawal due to acceptances at first and second choices. I hope one of you gets my spot!

does anyone know if SLU pulls people off the alternate list during the next few months as people withdraw their acceptances? or will the alternate list not show any movement until after people declare in may

FINALLY!! Rejected! It is nice to have a decision lol. Good luck too all, I hope your interest in medicine is fulfilled here, at another school, or in another field.

I don't think religion has ever really made a difference in our education. I am the same as you, very pro-choice, liberal, non-religious. I really can't imagine that non-elective abortions wouldn't be performed at the hospital, but I can't say for certain. "Since 1996, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) has required training for accreditation of schools providing residency programmes in obstetrics and gynecology, but that training - except for instruction on how to deal with complications of abortion - is optional for students who object to it on moral or religious grounds." So I guess all residencies in ob/gyn must give instruction on abortion procedures, unless you morally object.

How did you withdraw your application?

I got an II yesterday and SLU is an awesome school, but I know I won't end up there and I'd rather give my spot to someone else. I also have friends who would be thrilled to interview.

I sent them an email, but haven't gotten a confirmation or anything yet.

Can any current students speak to SLUs MD/MBA program? I'm very interested in applying to it if everything goes well and wanted to get an insider's perspective. Thanks in advance!!
 
Probably a longshot, but has anyone interviewed with or met Dr. Vincent Gibbons? I have an interview with him on March 2, any help would be appreciated!

Yeah, just checked their portal and saw that I sent them one mid-September, so I really doubt updates had anything to do with getting the II now. More likely one of the last interview slots withdrew instead of interviewing.
