2019-2020 Stony Brook

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks!

I’m in the Southwest. Have any idea how residency placement is for out here?
Also, do you think that in February (when I can interview here), they’ll be interviewing for waitlist spots? I know some schools do this...I guess it depends on whether Stony Brook is rolling admissions?
they said in the interview day that when you interview has no effect so first day or last same chance according to the dean

I was just curious if anyone could give me some insight into how the tests usually work in the first two years (if there are any current students on here). Are they weekly tests or more cumulative towards the end of the block. Thanks!

Hi all, do you think an abstract submission to international conference (acceptance would be notified in March) is worth of an update? Submitted in July and have not heard anything yet ... I'm working full time in a lab but I won't be submitting manuscripts or be notified of acceptance until next Spring. So I'm thinking if it's worthwhile to send an update just for abstract submission because I really don't have any other significant update at this point...

Personally I wouldn't unless you plan on adding other activities that you've done that were not included in your primaries or secondaries. I think you should send letter of interest talking more about why Stonybrook is a good fit for you.

I interviewed the first week of October and have yet to hear back. Should I call them? It's been 11 weeks and I anticipate it being at least another two weeks because of the holidays.

I believe someone earlier in this thread called and asked about their status and was simply told the committee had not yet made a decision on their app yet, so it seems like you have little to lose by calling

I'm on week 10 as well. I called them and they said they haven't made a decision. They also couldn't give me a time frame on when to expect to hear back. It will probably be another 2 weeks at least due to holidays, you're right. But they're nice in the office so I don't think you have anything to lose by calling.

Anyone have a match list? Or does anyone know their average step score? Trying to see whether the H/P/F is worth it.

According to USNews, the average step 1 score is 234, although many med students have said to not consider that metric (as much as other metrics) when choosing schools. That average score is more student-dependent than anything else

The earliest for me was 1/7 which was unfortunate since I had another interview that day but they have a lot of dates available on February

This is probably a really stupid question, but does anyone know if the email of intention to enroll is binding? I was lucky enough to get an acceptance at another school as well and am still having trouble deciding between the two. I already paid the deposit at the other school and am unsure what to do for Stony. Thanks in advance!!

not binding. you can pay a deposit at two schools. (also sorry, an earlier version of this post was due to a misread of the question)

Any students on here able to speak about how the H/P/F affects student collaboration/ stress levels?

Does anybody know when what the last interview date is? I was complete in mid-July and still haven’t heard anything...

Finally heard back! Interviewed 10/15, HPWL. Email was signed and forwarded from my faculty interviewer too.

Interviewed 10/07, HPWL. Based on the email, it seemed like the chances of getting in off this list are pretty high. I didn't even know they had a HPWL, maybe it's a new addition this year? There's no indication of it on previous years' threads

Very interesting, didn't realize they had a high priority list. They didn't mention it when I interviewed middle of October. Good that others also have been waiting that long. Would be very happy with a HPWL, that's real hope right there. Congrats to everyone!

Interviewed 9/12. Also received HPWL yesterday. Tried to look for information about it in previous years, but couldn't find much. Good luck to all!

Does getting put on the normal waitlist basically mean a rejection then? They didn't specify high priority or low priority in the email.

i got on the waitlist this morning, but mine doesn't seem to be high priority

I got put on the waitlist today, interviewed 10/17. It certainly does seem like a rejection if it's true that a high priority waitlist exists. But I'll call tomorrow.
