2019-2020 Tufts

Does anyone know when Tufts stops sending II? It seems they’re scheduling in March so that makes me nervous

While March is the last month for interviews (according to their website) it is still possible that people will cancel. Additionally, the current interview dates that were released were early march (on Mon/Wed). They may still release more Mon/Wed's for the rest of March!

EDIT: To further my point, slot just opened in Feb (someone probably cancelled) and I was able to switch. It ain't over till it's over if you're still waiting!

Just received one as well! Boston Campus - early March were the options. See you there 🙂

EDIT: Was completed with my app in August.

Congrats! Did you send an update or loi?

Out of curiosity, what time does the interview day start and end?

Is anyone here enrolled in the MD/MPH program? Any idea what the additional weekly time commitment is like for the dual degree in years 1 & 2?

The day starts at 9am and the ending time is dependent on your second interview slot. My second interview was at 2:40pm so I could have left around 3:20 when I was done, but there were also current medical students there to chat with if you had any remaining questions, however this was informal/not required. I believe the other second interview slot started at 3:30 so they probably finished around 4ish.

Not sure if you're asking in relation to booking flights, but my ride to Logan airport after only took about 25 minutes!

Yeah I had the same question. I worry about what the overall time commitment is like. Plus I don't know if I'd want to give up two clinical electives

I went on the Tufts website and they say multiple times that they "review applications in the order they are complete." With that being said, why is it that I have been complete since 7/17 and have heard absolutely nothing...?
This just a guess and based on no real evidence but I think they do an initial review and put folks on some sort of internal hold till a later time to rereview. I hope atleast lol

Anyone in the boat where they've been getting straight silence from schools they are actually interested in, but they have no idea what to write in an update letter, yet they want to send something...? Just me, ok.
In general, I'm not sure if I should send letters of interest or updates. Do people advise for or against this? I'm conflicted because I don't know if letters would actually make a difference in whether or not I receive an II. That being said, I want to do everything in my power.

I've been just doing it because why not at this point (my third cycle). So far nothing negative has happened. I sent Tufts an ITA email and they replied back in a very generic email that they can't give people interviews for ITA. I sent UPenn an ITA and haven't heard back at all. Other schools I'm waiting on I did one update and one interest letter each and nothing so far.

Could be. No one that's reviewed my application has seen any red flags or glaring weaknesses to explain my lack of success. If it is yield protection it's a shame because I would absolutely be happy attending schools that have looked over me thus far
I hate to say that. But high stats don't get you in automatically even with an application that has no red flags. Your application has to have something special, other than your stats. If every bit of your application is mediocre other than high LM's, you won't be successful. TBH, most schools don't care about stats over a certain threshold. At Tufts, LM of 75 is the same as 84. Even at most t10's, that's the case. The reason I say that is because on my interview trail, many interviewers commented on my high stats and told me how they discarded high stats people left and right because their application has nothing else, just pure blah.. That's mostly at t10's.

Insight I have received from adcoms has suggested the above to be very accurate. High LM gets you past the screen but an interesting narrative with unique experiences gets you to the interview.

No update or LOI (although I was planning to send one this week!).

for those who have interviewed/visited tufts: what were some aspects of the school that stood out to you? anything in particular that made you think you'd attend Tufts over other schools you are considering? wondering whether there are compelling enough reasons to choose tufts over my state school that would save me major $$

  • Students were some of the happiest that I interacted with out of 10 similar schools i've been to and you get to meet dozens of them during the interview day.
  • They emphasized that faculty are super open and supportive of student body.
  • If you are interested in matching in boston/massachussets area, their match list for harvard affiliated hospitals is pretty impressive
  • Location in chinatown is pretty central and convenient.
  • Facilities are way better than I expected them to be and the new anatomy lab is sick

I second all of this! Also, the students really seemed to enjoy the community service they did, and several of them told me that they kept doing it after they met the minimum required hours. It sounded like there were tons of different service opportunities too, so there's something for everyone. And if you have any kind of Chinese background (or probably even if you don't), there are opportunities to learn Cantonese and get more involved with the school's local community.

Massachusetts and the Boston area have 2 key things going for them; 1. A tremendous number of world class hospitals for med students to complete their clinical / residency years at. 2. Massachusetts hospitals are on the cutting edge of research and clinical trials of new treatments.

All of this and a great new experience in a different city! I moved to boston from SoCal and have absolutely loved every minute of it.

Although East coast cities get a bad wrap on the west coast, I have found Boston to be very refreshing. It’s a very walkable city with a lot of character. Not quite as overwhelming as NY, but still a bustling city and very different from west coast life (in a good way). Everyone here is motivated and looking to get involved and I feel like that alone is definitely a factor in being more productive!

Would any current or former Maine track students be willing to answer some specifics about the program?

Also interested. Have you been accepted anywhere else? Besides Fin A, what are you mulling over about the program?
