2019-2020 Tufts

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Would any current or former Maine track students be willing to answer some specifics about the program?
I was just thinking, it’s unlikely m1 students are still on this Premed board. You may want to post on the Tufts forum in Med School.

What is the style of the two interviews?

As said above, its 1 on 1 but its also more informal. Throughout the interview day, admissions staff stressed heavily that the point of the interviews was to get to know you more as an applicant and as an overall person. I think I had maybe 1-2 questions total that pertained to what was actually written in my application. What was also nice was that you ate lunch with current M1 and M2 students and they could comment on the interviewers because very likely they also had them during the interview process.

Hope this helps!

What are the post ii acceptance rates

Post ii acceptance for Maine track higher or lower if you were to guess

Does anyone know when the Adm Committee meets this month?

It will probably be within the first 2 weeks of January. I interviewed 10/16 and administration said they would meet as a committee on the last day of the month to make decisions. I ended up getting a call on 11/5.

As an update for everyone, I received a call today from the Dean that I was accepted! My first one, so I am over the moon. I interviewed in mid-December, so I assume there will be more calls made today and in the next week. Best of luck to you all.
Congrats!! Is there any change in your portal now?

Flying from the west coast for a Maine track interview in January. Is it best to fly into Portland and Uber or do flights get canceled. Other option would be renting a car and driving up from Boston correct?

Just fly into Boston and take the train up from North Station. It's what I am doing. The train rarely gets canceled.

Thank you so much! There’s no change in my portal. He said in the coming days there will be an official letter or portal update. I’d recommend not neurotically checking the portal (as impossible as I know that is haha) because I think they call most if not all accepted students before a portal change.

Maine premed here - very familiar with the area. Flying into Logan (Boston) will put you about 90 ish minutes from Portland, not including traffic. Portland Jetport is a 10 minute drive to Maine Med. If you’re flying in the night before, and costs are reasonable, I’d fly into Portland.

So the website says that students can only get up to 3/4 tuition scholarship (and I believe that’s what they said on interview day) .. but the website also says “Most scholarships are equivalent to 25% of tuition, however, some may be valued as much as 100% of tuition“.

is it then possible to get a full scholarship?

interviewing here tomorrow, any last minute tips from admitted or current students? i’m really interested in this school and want to make a good impression!

I think you can get a full scholarship. The tour guide I had on interview day said he received full tuition aid. But I don't think the full tuition aid came from all need-based. I think he may have received need-based and then maybe a separate scholarship (one from that scholarship questionnaire form). I'm not 100% on this though.

Some of my friends are M3's here and they have said to just be yourself and to highlight your accomplishments in a humble manner. They have also told me that interviewers choose who they interview and are genuinely interested in your application for specific reasons. Make sure to google them during your lunch break and see if you can find any commonalities with your interviewer (research interest, field of practice, hobbies if listed somewhere, etc.). This might give you some insight on where to steer the conversation if given the opportunity. This should also inform what questions you should ask the interviewer at the end of your interview!

Best of luck!!!

i didnt get anything abt financial aid post acceptance, nor is there anything online abt it :/

Does anyone know if Tufts publishes real match lists? On their website they give the % going into each specialty but it would be great to get more details.

Question for a current student if there are any here:

Can you comment more about your average step 1 score? I don't see official data but on a sdn or reddit spreadsheet from an year ago it said 227. I was surprised that it was kinda low considering the amazing match list. Is that score accurate? If so any ideas why so low and also how the new curriculum may affect it?

They give out the 2019 match list in the folder at the interview. Not sure if 2019 is online yet.

No idea about average step score but I just want to point out that it’s probably not a very good reflection of the quality of the program. More likely it’s a reflection of the quality of the students. Correlation =/= causation

IIRC, the dean at my interview day said the step 1 avg was in the 230's. Can't remember the exact number though.

For people who interviewed already, what advice do you have in terms of preparing for the interview? How was your interview like? Is there anything you wish you knew before going to the interview?

I would recommend knowing your application really well -- one of my interviewers had her laptop open throughout the whole thing and was scrolling through my AMCAS asking me about specific details of my activities. Also, this could have just been the two interviewers I had, but both of them had me talking about "why Tufts" for several minutes. The whole thing was really laidback though. Good luck!
