2019-2020 Tufts

II this morning! Complete 7/15. Such an open time frame to select what day you want to interview. I'm assuming earlier is better because of rolling admissions? Debating if I should schedule this after other interviews though so that way I am more comfortable and practiced at interviewing by the time I go here.
Not true. There is no statistical difference in the rate of admissions for our applicants who interview in September vs December.
hotels in the area seem to be stupid expensive... anybody find anything good?
You can email the office of admissions and ask about staying with a student. And for the neurotic applicants, no, the student hosts have zero impact on your application.

I went to college in Cambridge--Airbnbs out in Somerville/the Tufts undergrad campus are generally affordable, and you can take the Red Line to Downtown Crossing and walk to Tufts Medical Center (if that's where interviews are?) Otherwise, Uber/Lyft pools are generally pretty inexpensive as long as you're not going at surge hours and allot enough time to make it to your destination!

DO NOT DO THIS IF IT REQUIRES TAKING THE GREEN LINE!

That line is constantly breaking down and delayed.

LOOOL commuter rail is dif from the subway. Also Tufts (from north end) is off the red line, so no worries

HUUUUGE Heads up to anyone using public transit to get to Tufts or any other place in Boston: Our subway, buses & commuter rail are frequently delayed. Highly suggest giving yourself extra time to get to interviews if you're going to use it.

Check the MBTA/MBTA Commuter rail twitters for alerts about delays. If you're using the commuter rail, MBTA Rail is $0.99 and is very helpful.

Seriously. I take the T every day. Don't underestimate its ability to ruin your day. Also if you're coming up from the South Shore using the Red Line, be aware there's ongoing delays due to the derailment last June.

In addition to that traffic is awful, so there's really no winning. I use the redline every morning and its not that bad compared to others. I would definitely take that over uber/lyft and risking standstill traffic outbound from boston

If you’re from the surrounding New England area (I am), you could always just take the Amtrak in to south station and walk to downtown crossing/tufts medical school. It’s like a 10 minute walk.

Did anyone else with an IA have to get an official explanation letter from the institution where it occurred?

Yes, that's happened for a couple schools including Tufts

I haven’t been asked, but I’ve heard nothing from them whatsoever. Can you pm me the email address Tufts wants it sent to so I can send it ahead of time? Thanks!

Direct quote from the email: "If you have been invited to interview with us, please schedule and attend your interview as usual. This request for additional documentation will not delay your eligibility to be invited for an interview or affect any current interview invitations."

So don't worry about it until you actually get an email. Here's something you can do in the meantime--ask your premed advising office if your IA was addressed in the committee letter/letter packet. If it was, you're all set and will just have to let them know, but if not, they will need to prepare an explanation on official letterhead and get it mailed out, I expect that could take some time. They give you a month to send in documentation.

It sounds like this isn't being used to evaluate eligibility for an interview, it's more that they want to confirm your explanation of the IA aligns with your school's explanation.

Does tufts accept updates?

On the Additional Documents tab on the secondary:

Upload Additional Documents
Throughout the application year, you may upload additional documents to supplement your application with updated information about your activities and accomplishments. You may upload any type of document EXCEPT letters of recommendation (which must be submitted through the AMCAS letter service). You are welcome to upload memos from yourself to our admissions committee. (Note that you are not required to add any additional documents.)
Please upload .pdf files only, file size must be less than 4mb.

Yes. I got a notification that the required additional documentation explaining my IA was received last Friday and then I got the II Monday morning. Temple U also requires this.

Complete with Tufts early July, this might not even be an issue for me...

Thanks for the input everyone!

Tufts has two open filed traditional interviews, correct?

My understanding is that this is the format for the interviews. I've spoken to a current Tufts M2 student who confirmed this for her interview process. Also looking at previous statistics from interview information at Tufts, this does seem to be true.

Anybody having issues with the photo upload on the secondary app? It says my file was selected but I can't view it in the little rectangle..I wanna make sure it isn't cropped wierd.

I’m a little confused. I had an IA, but haven’t received an email about it, but I also don’t have an II or any other communication from them. Did you just receive an email asking for the additional documentation? Do they not send that email to all who have IAs or is it probably just that they haven’t gotten to my app? Thanks

+1

Who knows, I got the email from them a week after HolisticAFFF so I guess they send it in the order they review apps? I didn't get an II though so I don't think getting the email has anything to do with getting an II, my guess is it's an administrative verification process separate from the admissions committee but I can only guess.

They probably only sent me the email after they read my application and saw that I had an IA. Also before this, I had called them because I heard that they require additional documentation. They said they would email me if they need anything else. Also they give you a month from the time of the email to send the additional documentation in and they said it doesn’t affect if you get an II or not (i.e. IIRC, they can choose to send you an II before they receive the additional documentation). Just be patient 🙂

Has anyone who applied to the MD/MBA received an II yet? And is there a separate or additional interview process compared to the standard MD?

Has anyone who applied to the MD/MBA received an II yet? And is there a separate or additional interview process compared to the standard MD?

Check the FAQ:

How do I get into the MD/MBA Program?
Admission to the MD/MBA Program is "concurrent" with admission to the Medical School. The hardest part is getting into the MD program. You are not considered for the MBA portion of your degree until you are acted upon by MD admissions.

So basically you won't be considered for the MBA program until admitted to the MD program, so applying for the MBA at this point has no bearing on the MD application.

Sorry if someone has asked this already and I missed it, but does anyone know if Tufts is open to ITA emails?

Not sure if you ever got an answer for this, but this kept happening to me until I made my pic a really small file size and then it popped up.

I realized hitting " save" allowed me to see the image before submitting it.

has anyone gotten an interview at both boston and maine?
You can't. If selected to interview for the Maine Track, you interview in Maine. After the interview, if you are not selected to the Maine Track, your app is then reviewed by the Boston admissions committee using your Maine interview. If you are not chosen for a Maine Track interview, your application is reviewed by the Boston ADCOMs for possible selection for the Boston Track. The Adcoms for Maine are different (with some overlap) than the Boston based Adcoms, as the Maine track contains representatives of Maine Med. Hope that helps!

Does anyone know if the 4-year MD/MPH application has a different review process than MD only? Or has anyone received a II for MD/MPH yet?

Hey I applied md/mph and have an interview. According to the email (or website?) you have to get into the regular MD program first and then you’ll be considered for the MPH. There are no additional interviews though. So sounds like it’s the exact same process as MD

Congrats on the interview! Good luck! And thanks for the info 🙂 Would you mind sharing your stats and complete date?
