2019-2020 Tulane

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yea I know I'm being a little neurotic lol. I probably need to lay off sdn. It's just Tulane that has me so anxious cuz they fill up their interviews so quickly ):

Nothing wrong with that! I am the same way and think I have to get off SDN, especially for the schools I've already completed. Getting to me slowly, but only thing we can do is just believe and "trust" the system.

They only acknowledge completion once they take your app under review. So if you've submitted everything, your app is complete but you won't get the email acknowledging it until they actually start looking through your app. No need to send phone calls/emails (especially since they specifically say not to do that). It's still very early in the process; try to focus your mind on hobbies/work/friends right now.

My application was verified on 7/17, I received and submitted their secondary on 7/18, and was complete and under review on 7/22. I just got the email this morning that I was invited for an interview
may I ask your stats?

I am actually a re-inventor. My cGPA is below a 3.00 because of a year of bad grades in 2012, but my upward trend is pretty significant. I earned close to a 4.00 in the past 70+ credits I've taken (one B in 2016), including an SMP. I scored a 513 on the MCAT.

I honestly don't know how this cycle will go for me because of my stats, so I'm just excited to have been granted the opportunity to interview and let the adcoms see who I am. It's a big confidence booster and makes me realize that they aren't just putting in a disclaimer when they say they perform holistic reviews.

This is awesome! Rooting for you!

That’s so awesome! I’m in a similar boat with my history so you give me some hope!

I was verified 7/18 but still haven’t received a secondary from here. Anyone else with a similar situation?

I’m happy to have given you hope!! There are a lot of success stories of people with our stats on SDN and that’s definitely how I’ve kept my hopes up. Good luck this cycle!

Hey friends, does anyone that's interviewing (or has interviewed in the past) intend on bringing tennis shoes? They said to consider it in the email for the end-of-day tour but I wasn't sure if they'd be necessary

Submitted and complete on 7/10 but still not under review........ feels like I wasted some $$$$ lol. Also, when does tulane send out the Rs?

Not bringing tennis shoes
I have a pair of loafers I’m bringing

Serious question, I'm still getting verified, and will have my LORs and CASPER score around first week of August or so. So should I skip Tulane? Especially as a non-US citizen?

Conventional wisdom is that if you fit the mission of the school, esp service-driven schools like Tulane, shoot your shot. First week of August isn't terribly late, just know it's not early and you might take a while to hear anything. Tulane sends most of it's interviews out by the first couple weeks of September, so you will probably still be reviewed before then

I am planning to wear a super comfy pair of black flats. Can't go wrong with those!

For the leadership essay, if I was not a leader in any clubs, can I talk about my leadership as a big brother in big brothers big sisters or even my supervisor role at my workplace?

That sounds good to me! I talked about my leadership role and actions on my athletic team even though I wasn't appointed to any official leadership position.

One thing to note is that the secondaries are not instantaneous upon verification... can take an extra 2 days-week to receive iirc

Does anyone have an estimate when was the last days/months people received interviews last cycle? My Mcat doesn’t come back till end of August so I’m not sure if I should apply here.

If I’ve been under review since like 7/5 should I just assume the R. Would be the 4th rejection for me. Feels bad

You know what they say about what happens when you assume.... 😉

In all seriousness, no need to give up hope. I'm no expert, but it seems like they're scheduling people in September and October right now, so there is still PLENTY of time to interview. It's not over 'til it's over. If they were going to reject you, they would just go ahead and do it.

I was verified 7/18 and still have not received a secondary. Should I contact them or keep waiting?

Seen people say Tulane is service driven. Does anyone if they have a general standard for amount of service hours? Are they one of those schools that only really consider applicants with like 500+ hours?

I don't think its like Rush in that way. I have far fewer service hours than that and have an interview here.

Okay, thanks! Follow up question: do most schools count clinical volunteering towards total community service hours, or would this just be lumped into clinical experience hours and then they just look at non-clinical volunteering?

My extracurricular activity was a community service oriented organization. Does that count towards service? Worked a lot w free clinics!

Submitted on 7/16
Took CASPer on 7/18

My status in the portal has a green check mark by "Application File Complete," but it says "In Progress" below that.
I haven't gotten a file complete/under review email yet, though I presume that'll have to wait until three weeks after CASPer.

I don't think they require CASPer to mark it complete. They "recommend" taking it, though

You don't need CASPer to be complete/get an interview; I got a II before even taking CASPer. This is speculation, but I think they might use the CASPer results after the cycle is over to see how scores correlate with success in the cycle, interview performance, or performance in the med school. Since it's only relatively recently that schools have started implementing it in admissions, they might be trying to gauge its validity.
