2015-2016 Saint Louis University Application Thread

Gave the admissions office a call - the person I spoke with said they're having some sort of glitch and should be getting these out Wednesday.
Any idea if this glitch affects the release of admissions decisions?

That's what I assumed, I'm waiting for a decision as well. The fact that no body heard anything the past few days, I think there is a problem with their system. Hopefully they have the decision for a lot of people and they will release them all on Wednesday.

I have interview on 10/26 and I'll be arriving via plane on 10/24 I was initially considering über but after doing an estimate they gonna charge me like 80 dollars for 25 minute ride. TF. Does anyone have any experience with public transportation ? Also is stl safe I'll be arriving like 8pm

Use the free shuttle SLU offers from the airport to your hotel, assuming your hotel is on the list SLU put up on the secondary portal. It'll save you money on at least the trip to your hotel. After the interview, try to get a group of interviewees to share a cab back to the airport. I used Laclede Cab, and we split the fare ($45) three ways. I didn't use the trains myself, but other interviewees said they could be a little shady. And since you're there an extra day, see if you can snag a tram ticket for the arch and get in line for Pappy's.

And if you haven't already, reach out to the hosting coordinators for the student dinner. Danny and Emily are awesome!

Don't order uber from the airport it only allows black cars. Walk a block or two out of the airport and uberx rates (much lower) should pop up!

I took the train (Metrolink?) from the airport to SLU and back cuz it only cost $4. I wasn't super comfortable on the ride, but that was probably the result of baseless paranoia. Needless to say, I didn't have any issues. YMMV.

I would personally think twice about taking the same route at night but I have no concrete reason to suggest that that would be inadvisable.

I took the metrolink from the airport to a stop about 30 minutes away where my host picked me up. I felt perfectly safe and it was cheap!

Thanks guys! Your posts are very helpful. Ill look into the slu shuttle. I used the metro thing and planned my trip it'll cost me like 3 dollars one way. So far that's the cheapest just weary about using public transportation at like 9pm.

Also around what time did the interview day finish, my interview is at 8am

I was fine on the train but did feel a little unease.. Saint Louis isn't exactly the safest city. I took the bus to my airbnb after my interview (around 430 pm) and tried to pay the $3 fare for a transfer but only had $2 out and he told me in a hushed voice to just put the $2 in it was fine. I asked him why and he said "I don't want you to pull your money out on the bus" 😱

Also one of the interviewees my day took the train and said that someone came on the speaker and said they weren't stopping at the next stop because someone had just been shot. She said that she saw them carting away the body in a body bag as the train went past. BUT all the St Louis natives said that was definitely not the norm lol

Hi guys! I'm a current SLU student, I don't post much but I did want to clear this up. This is my 5th year in stl and a shooting at the metro is not typical of stl. I wouldn't take it alone past dark, but I'm always comfortable on it otherwise. A lot of workers, especially health workers, take it to and from work. And just to be clear the teen at the metro stop was shot in the leg, so definitely wasn't carried out in a body bag. Maybe on stretcher. Here's the link if you don't believe me. http://fox2now.com/2015/09/20/teen-shot-at-delmar-metrolink-station/
stl is a safe city as long as you're a person using common sense. Don't walk in dark areas that you don't know. Don't walk alone. I have always felt safe in stl and I don't think the supposed unsafeness of stl has changed my behavior in any way.

Wait, you're right, I was confused and mis spoke. She said he was carried away in a stretcher, not a body bag now that I think about it. I just thought it was an interesting story to share given we were talking about the trains. I apologize.

Agreed! Born and raised in Saint Louis and have taken the Metro alone at night and never felt unsafe. Just use common sense, keep your phone on you, don't stray away from the main roads, and you will be fine 🙂

I always rationalize that I'm not dealing drugs or involved with gangs so my chances of being involved with these incidents is much lower.

No worries! I just wanted to clear it up. I want everyone to love SLU as much as I do. And I totally agree with your second point, usually the crimes happen to people involved in criminal activities.

Anyone know where St. Louis is at in terms of completion dates/Interview Invites?
Secondary Completion Date: 9/17, II: 10/9
I interviewed yesterday, 10/20. Great atmosphere, very relaxed interview

So, I know I'm jumping the gun here, as I only interviewed this Monday. But, the fourth year I had lunch with said she interviewed around the time I had mine (10/19) and she said she was accepted on Christmas Eve. Anyone know if this is common for SLU, or heard when to expect to hear from them if interviewed after Oct 15?

Uhg been stalking this thread all day. Was really hoping today would be the day. Maybe that glitch they had is not yet resolved? I really hope we don't have to wait too much longer. It's been a month!!! (Over a month for some of you!!)

Are there any current SLU students wouldn't mind answering my questions?

All that's needed to hold our spot is the $100 deposit and electronic offer form right?

Totally forgot to post this but here you go!
Complete: 9/2
II: 9/18
Interviewed on 10/19 with Dr. Chamberland
LizzyM 74, IS

So today, reps from SLU will be at my school. I've turned my secondary in a month ago and haven't heard anything back. Would it be beneficial on my part to stop by their table and chat?

Are they ever going to get back to us ? lol

Same day as me. Don't worry, I know a lot of people get in off the waitlist
Ugh. I feel so dumb. I know they have a relatively high post-interview acceptance rate and I didn't make the cut.

that's it for today ?! after a whole week ? lol

Congrats @MerYangBey ! We were the same day so I'm hoping I get an email soon. If I don't I might spontaneously combust. I don't think I can wait another week.
