does umsom inform students of position on the waitlist? also is the waitlist ranked?

FYI. For accepted students, it looks like second look will be canceled unfortunately due to Covid-19 (classes canceled too). Administration is working on a virtual second-look day though.

I've been uploading my update documents via the student portal, but I've noticed that every time I click on the PDF link after I upload it, I just get redirected to the secondary application login page. Is this something that happens with your files as well? I'm just wondering if I should be worried about admissions being able to open my files correctly, or if it would be worth it to send the files through email

I experience the same thing. I sent an update through email a few weeks ago and they asked me to add it on the student portal. I'm assuming they can see our updates on the student portal for this reason.

Soooo I am pretty bummed about Second Look being canceled bc I really wanted to meet my future classmates and faculty. But, everything happens for a reason. I know I could wait for the virtual second look to ask questions, but I have a lot of free time due to corona affecting my work schedule lol. I just have a couple of questions for the current students:

-Could you describe the learning environment of the hospitals/rotations? How do most of the attendings/residents treat med students?
-Do you feel like med students have a lot of independence while working with patients during rotations?
-Is it common for students to get an MD/MPH here and do a lot of students receive grants/funding for it?
-What do you feel makes Maryland SOM stand out compared to other schools and what are some things they could improve on?
-Now that step 1 is P/F, what do you feel could be the most important factors (prestige?, electives?, step 2 scores?, etc.) to consider when deciding what med school one should attend?

I’m thinking of buying a house near campus. Three bedroom space that’s a walking distance to classes. Would anyone be interested in renting rooms?

Just wanna say that the Virtual Second Look was dope and I'm just excited to meet y'all one day 🙂

My financial aid was available! Does anyone know what the "fees" are? Also, does anyone know if the University Grants are awarded for all 4 years? thank you in advance!!! So excited to meet you guys

Sorry for so many questions - but does anyone know if UMD is accepting P/F grades for accepted students this semester given the COVID-19 circumstances? And if so, do I need to alert anyone?

Edit: From the website - "Given the impact of the current outbreak on grading for the spring 2020 semester, the University of Maryland School of Medicine is adapting by accepting online courses, and will accept Pass/Fail grading. In the event that your institution is providing a letter grading option for this semester, we highly encourage you to opt in to receive letter grades for your prerequisite courses, as preference will be given to letter grades when this option is available"

But this still doesn't tell me anything about students currently holding an acceptance.

From their wording, it sounds like P/F is fine for Spring 2020 courses regardless of where you are in their admissions process. As an accepted student, you're probably extra okay. If you're still not sure, call them.

ya same, I'll probably email/call next week...normally I would just say its staggered but the dean seemed pretty confident when she said they were released today
my financial aid info still isn't available but my fafsa was in in January. Is anyone else unable to access?

Finally got the pre-ii R. Complete 8/2, put on hold 1/17. Finally, my spreadsheet is complete

Congratulations!!!!! Is the hold list the same as the WL or something totally different?
Thank you! I was put on hold post-interview (I: Mid-December, H: End-January, A: End-March), so I believe hold and waitlist are the same thing. At least for the MSTP, I haven't heard them use anything other than "hold".

I apologize if this is a silly question but how do you go about accessing your financial aid package?

Any ideas if all the MSTP spots are filled?

anyone know when people on the waitlist should start hearing back? The initial email I got mentioned april?

Does anyone know if documents we delete from our application portal will also be deleted from our file from the committee's standpoint?
Not sure, but the WL notification says that updates will be looked at throughout April when our files are looked at, so I would think whatever is there at the moment they reconsider your app is fair game. So unless they've looked at your file already this month, you might be able to delete it/change it!

Is the portal the preferred way of contact to provide additional info regarding application updates? I've been sending updates through the portal but now I'm paranoid that they will be missed because I'm now getting information that some schools prefer us to send our updates via email

I uploaded my letter of interest directly into the portal a couple days ago. I figured since they let us have the option to upload multiple updates without restriction, they would want it in there instead of emailing them and going through the hassle to upload it.

Anyone on the WL gotten any communication yet? It's been dead silent 🤔

+1 on this one. I got my waitlist notification back in December and since then nothing regarding a waitlist update. They stated that the waitlist update should come early May so I would expect it either this week or early on next week.

Me too I have been waitlisted since December and thinking we should hear back this week. Last year’s thread showed people posting on like May 7th about their waitlist ranking.

Last year they sent out WL rankings on a Wednesday, a week after traffic day. Hopefully we'll get some info soon!

so nobody got an email this week with ranking info? would be nice to know if I should just give up...

I didn’t get an email. They could be delayed because of COVID-19, but it would be nice to know if I had a shot of getting off the waitlist or not...

Welp. I sent an email asking for an update and was told that we would be getting the waitlist update email “in the next two weeks.”
Lol. communication from Maryland has been both vague and sparse when compared to other schools. The school that I'm attending in the fall told us the day we would hear our decision, the day we could expect financial aid info, and has been transparent throughout the entire process. I was going to wait and see what WL movement was like from Maryland, but I don't think I can afford to wait that long.

Good luck to everyone. You all will be great doctors someday. Peace.

That’s a fair decision. Which school are you attending?
