2019-2020 Stony Brook

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I interviewed early Feb and haven’t heard anything. It’s been almost 8 weeks now...

Do any of you have information about second look? Do you know if it is cancelled, postponed, or happening virtually?

Anyone know if our classes are going to be completely in the MART?

Does anyone know if Stonybrook gives merit aid?
They have special programs for aid given to underrepresented/disadvantaged students, which are quite difficult to get according to what I heard from students/faculty at my interview day. The financial aid rep herself at my interview said to realistically not expect scholarships due to very limited funding (state school) and lack of large alumni donor pool (she said they’re not a very old med school? Haven’t fact checked this)

So no, I’ve not heard of merit aid but need-based seems somewhat a possibility if highly qualified.

Nothing yet. Accepted 10/15 and silence since.
Accepted same day and submitted my financial aid stuff a few weeks before it was due. I got my financial aid estimate a few weeks ago and it was just "you can take out loans for the COA" so perhaps your silence means you are being assessed for grants!

Are acceptances still being given out or is it just waitlists now?

During interview day they said that they don't interview for waitlist and that every interview date has an equal chance of getting accepted.

Anyone know if they plan on having a virtual second look?...didn't get an email about any virtual plans.

They did send out an email for the virtual second look. In fact I initially did not get an email about it but reached out to the admissions office and was forwarded the email. So, my guess is that when they initially sent it out they somehow missed people...

Wow. Thank you so much! Do you know the virtual second look date? Is it still April 17th?

whaaaat?! I assumed there was nothing! Thank you!!
Also rumor is all new students get an iPad?? That’s what the last class got!

can someone provide a link for the virtual second look? I didn't get anything about it either...

if I'm not mistaken, they didn't schedule a virtual second look. in the email where it was canceled, they just provided a bunch of links saying: "Below are links to the various programs that were going to be discussed at our Revisited Program:"

basically, figure it out lol

I emailed them about it and heard back this morning. Dean Agnetti said there is no virtual second look scheduled.

Has anyone gotten their financial aid package yet?

Has anyone applied or have done a dual degree program (e.g. MD/MPH) at Stony Brook? If so, can you speak to the experience and the admissions timeline?

Just withdrew my application, mostly because of an unfavorable financial aid estimate (only loans). Good luck to everyone else!

Hey everyone. I am writing a letter of intent to Stony after being placed on the waitlist a few months ago. Does anyone know who the letter should be addressed to? I got my waitlist decision signed by the Associate Dean of Admissions Jack Fuhrer. Is he the highest-ranking dean/director of admissions? really don't want to get this wrong, so please lmk if you know!

I would think to just send it back to admissions. My letter was forwarded by someone else but signed by Dr. Fuhrer. I would either send it to whoever forwarded it or just to admissions. They’d know to add it to the file. If you don’t mind me asking, were you on the regular or high priority waitlist? And good luck!

Thank you! I think I will put Dear Dr. Fuhrer but send it to the admissions office for my file. And just regular waitlist for me :/

Do they have to give us a decision by April 15th or April 30th?

Does anyone know how to withdraw from here? I can't find it anywhere on the portal
