2019-2020 Tulane

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I submitted 7/10 and am still waiting on a complete email. I also have a red exclamation mark next to the "In Progress" tab in the portal, but a green check mark next to everything else. Assuming this just confirms my app is not "under review" yet?

+1 but i submitted 7/14

Anyone else submit-secondary on 7/9 and are still waiting for complete email?

I submitted 7/9 (right after I received the secondary) and still haven't been marked complete. I also have significant family ties to NOLA and Tulane, so really hoping to be under review soon so that I don't miss out on their early IIs

In the interview invite, it says activities will end around 2: 30 pm. Do you think it's safe to book a flight leaving at 5:55 pm?
Should be ok
The airport is only 20 min or so from campus
But I don’t know how to account for traffic or how bad it gets there
Maybe a current student could comment...

I submitted today, anyone else having a red exclamation even though it says letter received?

The TSA lines at MSY (The New Orleans airport) are usually fairly short. Shortest TSA wait by far I've had at an airport.

Correct. The one time it was actually long (early flight, airport just opened, holiday maybe?), they brought in the dog and we got through quick.

I am not sure if this was asked and answered before but for list questions should I write a short description or just listing? Thanks in advance.

list, follow the instruction

I received the complete email and have the green check mark next to everything, but my last application category says "In Progress." Does anyone know if this changes to "Under Review" if they are reviewing your application?

Did you receive a complete email right away? I have all the green check marks (except for in progress as well) but I haven’t received a complete email yet..

How long after you submitted did you get the complete email? I have seen some get it two days later and some still not have it so I am confused haha

List any leadership positions, in clubs or organizations, you may have held during college: (100 words)

Should we just leave this blank if we didn't hold any leadership positions during college? Closest thing I can come up with was being a chem/bio tutor

Teaching is leadership

I didn’t have much either for this so I put tutor down

True, I'll list it. They didn't explicitly state that we should describe each activity.. I'm assuming we should also elaborate on the activities that we listed anyway?

I put a couple sentences for each activity
And I only listed two. They don’t give you much room anyways

For the optional essay, did any of you go beyond simply stating which race/ethnicity you identify with and your SES? Not much room for descriptions..

Mine wasn't about race but I briefly mentioned wanting to work with LGBT patients, etc.

I wrote about being a non-trad student.

Anyone else still waiting for a secondary? I’m wondering if I should give them a call...

For people under review does it say on application status “the admissions office does not accept phone calls regarding status of application”? I swear it changed to that when it said nothing before.

Not sure either but that's why there is email!

I was implying that maybe it could be a sign of a soft rejection if it is updated after you go under review

Did anyone else pay the application fee but it says that they didn't pay? I think I might have absent-mindedly pressed the back key which it says not to do but I am not sure.

I checked my bank activity and I'm definitely $125 poorer but the portal is showing the fee as unpaid....

For the "why this school?" prompt, is it frowned upon if we briefly talk about the city life? Such as the art, history, and culture of the city. Nothing extensive, like 2 sentences max.

I’ll lyk if I get an II.

That's what I did but talk about the Tulane mission too.

Yea, I decided to talk about their student run clinics and the certified culinary medicine specialist program. Wound up not having enough space to talk about the city life

The way I think of this is that pretty much everyone who applies wants to go to Tulane for their city life. So I didn't even use a whole sentence, I just mentioned it off handedly
