So now we have two weeks to complete this right?
Did you receive an email saying that you had two weeks to complete or did you only see that on UMass's website? I didn't realize the two week thing until right now, and now I am freaking out. Do schools really expect that we check their website every day??

The info about the two week deadline was in their secondary invitation email.

well....I just realized that now. Anyone have any idea if not completing within two weeks will get my application completely thrown away? I am not prepared to take it today or tomorrow so I am definitely not meeting the two week deadline.

Hey Everyone, I completed VITA last Tuesday. Do not get in your head too much about it. Use the AAMC Practice VITA and Savy PreMed created another practice one that I will try to link below. I advise using the full 60 seconds to think about and plan your answers. Also beforehand, flush out your answer to the why medicine and your path to medicine. Definitely get it done within two weeks. It really is not that bad and putting it off is just gonna make it worse. The questions are very similar to what you would expect secondary questions to be so rereading secondaries with a lot of questions might be helpful. Also, read both VITA manuals, they explain a lot. You can also stop after each question if you felt like you did not answer it great.

Thanks for the uploading the Savvy Link. I just did this, thinking I was prepared. It was nerve wracking. but good because it gave some questions that I had not though about.

oh! that seems random but hopefully, I receive it tomorrow am. Thank you!
Do you know if the 2 week deadline is 2 weeks from the time you receive the email from VITA or 2 weeks from the time you submit your secondary app?

2 weeks from when you receive the invitation. VITA is only by invite.

What are everyone's thoughts on repeating content from secondaries in VITA? For example, if VITA asks you to talk about a time you overcame something, should you talk about something totally different from what you discussed in your obstacle/adversity secondaries or should you use that material since it's probably the strongest example of when you overcame something (assuming you write about the best example you can think of in a secondary)?
Because umass sends out VITA to everyone who completes a secondary, it's hard to decide what examples to keep in the back of my mind because I don't know what other schools I might end up receiving VITA from during the interview season and then I might end up repeating myself later since all the schools have different secondary prompts...

Depending on the question/situation, I don't think it would be a problem to re-use an example especially if that is your strongest example. I feel like it would be better to use something you mentioned in your secondary than a weak example that is different, especially since like you mentioned, you don't know what other schools will be reviewing your VITA as well. I would say if you do use the same example, try to approach it at a different angle or with some new points and/or just make sure you're not just repeating what you said in the secondary

Uh I got another vita invite from UMass even though I already completed it?

Should I be worried if I haven't gotten a VITA invitation even though I submitted my secondary like two weeks ago, 8/9?

Does getting a VITA guarantee that you'll also get an in-person invite lol? Or do they use the VITA to also screen for interviews? I'm nervous about the virtual interviewing platform/feel like I'm not great at talking into a void haha

on their website (COVID-19 Impact on Admissions) it says "Some applicants who complete VITA will be not be invited to participate in our virtual MMI. "

I just finished VITA and I felt awkward as hell. Maybe it's because I just finished it. Hopefully schools don't put much stock into VITA. It very much is like a Casper test in video format.

I did too

Hey does anyone know if umass is very strict on their letter requirements? I don't want to waste a bunch of money and time on the secondary here if they are... *cough* pennstate *cough*

Can anyone who did VITA share tips/resources? I'm having a meltdown lol....

If you mean, do they need a specific number of letters from specific types of references, the answer is no. They are very likely to be flexible. If you are worried, call the admissions office (they are kind and helpful).

II received two hours ago. OOS, no ties, cGPA of 3.84 and sGPA of 3.74. 515 MCAT (128/130/128/129), and I submitted the secondary application on July 27th. I did the VITA exactly a week after the first invites went out. I'm a long-time lurker of SDN who has never posted before, but I figured this would be as good a time as any to start!

Anyone who did the VITA can you tell me how it went? I have been putting this off and my two week deadline is fast approaching

I took it today! Tbh I feel like I rambled and repeated myself for 2 questions :/ it’s not that bad tho! Definitely do the practice VITA and just prepare some anecdotes for all the competencies.

They have a practice VITA you can do. Also, they have two documents that walk you through how it all works. I would read what core competencies they ask questions on and come up with a few examples that show that competency. For the path to medical school question, just make sure you have thought out answers. I am definitely nervous too though, I have been dreading doing this all week haha but I will probably do mine on Sunday.
where can I find the practice?

How long did it take for you guys to get a secondary? 🙁 I was verified last Tuesday, IS and nothing

Is there anyone who might know where on the secondary we can go about indicating ties to the city and the school that wouldn't necessarily qualify us for residency but still is important to note somewhere on the application?

I tried to do that too. I squeezed it into the "Discuss any part of your application that requires further description".

Would you mind sharing what the earliest interview dates for UMMS were?

Has anyone received any notifications from either UMass or AAMC that your VITA interview was successfully received?

Yeah, after I took it I got an email from Hirevue/AAMC with the subject line "AAMC VITA Complete". Didn't hear anything from UMass though

Anyone else get an email from VITA this morning? I am not sure if it is Massachusetts again or a new school.

Did you guys receive a "complete" email before the VITA invite? I just submitted my secondary here.

What are people wearing for the VITA interview? Business Casual or Suit?
