Does anyone know if financial aid still gives you aid in addition to this admissions aid?

The letter I got said to fill out FASFA to be considered for additional financial aid. I think outside of the "merit?" aid I got, the school has a grant that is up to 9k and I do not know how this is awarded. Otherwise, I think it's just your typical loans.

Was this only in snail mail? Or was there a portal update etc

apologies if this was already asked but does maryland have student hosting for interviews?

Yes they do! They typically reach out to you about 2-3 weeks before your interview with a google document that has contact information of students who have volunteered to host interviewees. You could also reach out to the Office of Admissions by email if you think you might have missed the student host email

Does this school give OOS students in-state tuition after they live in Maryland for a year?

It doesn't "give" so much as OOS students can apply for in-state residency. Meaning you have to meet certain standards, like having a MD drivers license & some other things that I don't really know.

At my interview day they said that the variables that go into awarding the university grant are your FAFSA submission date and EFC, but I would call to ask if there's anything else you can do to increase that funding. (Seems like quite a few students around the country have had success by just calling directly to ask about alt. aid opportunities.)

does this school reject post II or is everyone that is not accepted put on the waitlist?

Did anyone else get invited to their annual dinner celebrating diversity in Feb? I think it would be cool to talk with current students/faculty before second look but idk.

Pre-interview hold, completed in early August LM 67 OOS.

Amazed I wasn’t outright rejected, but I guess I still have a tiny sliver of hope left.

Any interview advice?
My advice would be 1.) Try not to be so nervous! Both interviews are open-file (but I don't think they have access to your MCAT and GPA), so make sure you reread your primary and secondary and are able to clearly and enthusiastically talk about aspects of your app. 2.) Try to connect with your interviewers using similarities that you two may have. This could be anything from similar research interests, hobbies, or shadowing experiences. For example, I worked as an ER scribe, so since one of my interviewers was an ER physician, I talk about my experiences in the ER and connected with my interviewer over that. I think that helps leave a good impression.

Good luck!!!

Current students: how reliable is the UMB shuttle? Anyone live in Federal Hill and know how long it takes to get to campus in the morning?

Hey all... im considering buying a house and eventually renting it out to medical students for a good price in 4 years once im in residency. What are some areas you all/ people are realistically considering? And how far from the school are people going to live?

I did too and I think it would be nice plus there will be free food.

Can any current students speak about where students tend to live - are there any specific neighborhoods to look for or avoid?

My family is originally from Baltimore (locust point) and I went to school at Hopkins. Baltimore may seem scary but use your street smarts and don’t venture into the seedy neighborhoods after dark. Loved the city and all of its character! Here are my thoughts below:

Safe/popular neighborhoods: Federal Hill, Locust Point, Harbor East, Little Italy, South Fells Point, Southern area of Mount Vernon, Inner Harbor.

Neighborhoods to stay away from: Anywhere west of Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, northern section of mount vernon, north Fells Point, anywhere surrounding hopkins hospital.

Not a current student but grew up in the area. I would second keeping your guard up, even in the areas listed as safe. And I would definitely second not living West of MLK. Keep in mind the perimeters the school has for walking escorts & car escorts (this is on the campus map) as you may feel safer living inside of them.
Additionally, you can find information about where incidents happen around the campus here: 60-Day Crime Log

The previously mentioned neighborhoods are great options. I’m a current student here living west of MLK. I personally haven’t had any issues and will be renewing my lease. There are plenty of students that live west of MLK as it is a much cheaper option. Pigtown houses Camden Crossing and other student heavy neighborhoods that are specifically within the UMB SafeRide range.

So are they totally done with II's? Got put on "hold" for one mid December.
